Condylomas (also called genital warts) are neoplasms on the skin and mucous membranes that appear as a result of the activation and proliferation of papillomavirus infection (HPV). They can be small and voluminous, wet or dry, flat, wide or pointed (the latter being the most common).
In men, condylomas form on the scrotum, glans penis, urethra, and foreskin. In women, condylomas form on the labia majora and minora, the clitoris and the urethral opening area. They can occur on the cervix, in the perianal area and at the vestibule of the vagina. Less commonly, neoplasms form on the face, in the nose, eyes, mucous membranes of the mouth and tongue.
The human papillomavirus is transmitted from an infected mother to her child during childbirth, through unprotected sexual contact, as well as in the presence of microtrauma to intimate parts. Immune system disorders, sexually transmitted diseases, bad habits, and poor hygiene contribute to the formation of condylomas.
Genital warts not only spoil the appearance of intimate places, but also cause physical discomfort - they give a feeling of itching and burning, painful sexual intercourse, and the appearance of pathological vaginal or urethral discharge.
