What is sculptural massage
Initially, Joel Ciocco's sculptural facial massage was used to restore muscle mobility after a stroke. But over time, a bright rejuvenating effect was noticed and sessions began to be prescribed to improve the condition of the skin. When creating a new technique for the face, Joelle Siocco used the following techniques:
- classical massage;
- osteopathic;
- lymphatic drainage;
- Shiatsu;
- Tibetan;
- Japanese;
- Jacquet.
Joël Siocco teaches sculptural massage.
The author of the massage technique promotes his technique in different countries of the world, incl. and in Russia. During training, she shows all the stages, techniques and the correctness of their implementation. Training in sculptural massage is possible through face-to-face courses and seminars, and mastery requires basic knowledge of facial anatomy and massage techniques. Before conducting a session, the cosmetologist must determine the genetic tendency of the skin to aging, its condition and the level of perception of external factors and stress.
Subtleties of sculptural massage technique
French massage technique is an alternative to surgical facelift. Its peculiarity is the use of force to work out important points and muscle joints, and massaging of the masticatory and facial muscles takes place both from the outside and from the inside.
For the first massage and self-massage sessions, the optimal age is 30-35 years. To maintain good skin condition during this period, 2 courses of 10 procedures per year are sufficient. For people over 45 years old, 3 courses should be carried out per year, each of which includes 17-20 sessions.
Advantages and disadvantages
This rejuvenation method has the following advantages:
- improvement of appearance;
- affordable cost compared to plastic surgery;
- the result can be assessed after several sessions.
This type of massage also has disadvantages:
- soreness, however, the pain syndrome goes away after several procedures;
- lack of professional cosmetologists, so the procedure is not always carried out by a highly qualified specialist, which may not only not give a positive result, but also lead to undesirable consequences.
Contraindications
Contraindications to sculptural massage include:
- age up to 25 years;
- inflammatory and infectious skin diseases;
- large moles, warts and other mechanical damage in the treatment area;
- oncology;
- diseases of the blood and blood vessels, accompanied by increased fragility and poor blood clotting;
- thyroid diseases;
- hematomas;
- exacerbation of chronic diseases.
Temporary contraindications are colds and elevated body temperature. Sessions are prohibited during pregnancy and lactation.
Optimal session frequency
The number and frequency of visits to the salon depend on age and skin condition.
Starting from the age of 25, preventive sculptural massage is performed 2-4 times a month. If facial wrinkles appear, the skin loses its elasticity, then one-time visits to a cosmetologist are not enough. Under the age of 35 years, a course consisting of 12 procedures, carried out every 3-5 days, is completed per year. Six months later it is repeated.
Women over 35 will need more courses - 3-4 per year. It is recommended to massage every other day.

Benefits of procedures
The effectiveness of sculpture-deep tissue procedures is explained by:
- reduction of facial wrinkles;
- releasing facial muscles from spasms;
- activation of idle muscles;
- getting rid of puffiness by improving lymph movement;
- stimulation of the neuroreceptor system;
- improving the condition of the entire facial muscle network;
- elimination of nasolabial folds;
- restoration of the normal position of the corners of the lips and eyes;
- accelerated removal of metabolic products;
- increasing skin hydration;
- narrowing pores and increasing the elasticity of the skin.
After a massage course, the volume of the cheeks decreases, a pronounced facial contour appears, and the double chin disappears.
Types of sculpture massage
French sculptural massage is constantly updated with new techniques, and the result is often isolated as an independent massage practice. The master needs to know not only the techniques and their possible combinations, but also the structure of the skin and muscle frame of the face, the type of aging, the presence of indications and contraindications, etc.
Myostructural
The technique of myostructural body massage was created about 15 years ago by Professor Enrique Castells Garcia from Spain. It is based on the techniques of chiromassage and sculptural massage. During the procedure, metabolic processes are activated, muscle tone is restored, muscle contractility is improved and fascia is strengthened. All this leads to improved joint function, increased range of motion, elimination of swelling and better elimination of toxins. Thanks to the lifting effect, the skin is evened out and the appearance of cellulite is reduced.
Regular sessions help get rid of age-related changes in the shape of the joint capsule and are a good prevention of the consequences of microtrauma to the joints.
Myostructural facial massage as a local practice affects the deep layers of skin, muscles and bones. During the session, biovascular and neurosedative techniques are additionally used. Result of facial treatment:
- muscle relaxation;
- increasing skin elasticity;
- facial skin rejuvenation;
- stimulation of the nervous and circulatory system;
- elimination of facial wrinkles;
- elimination of nasolabial fold;
- activation of regeneration processes;
- restoration of tissue turgor.
During the preparatory part, the master strokes the face, then massages the scalp, shoulders and joints, neck and forearm. After the first procedure, the complexion improves, and the effect is consolidated within 2-3 days after the session.
Depending on the area of study, fingertips, fingers, hands and elbows, and forearms are used. The intensity and amplitude of movement are selected individually.
Liposculpture
Liposculpture massage is used to eliminate cellulite and correct the figure. During the session, first the capillaries and skin receptors are worked on, then the subcutaneous adipose tissue with the main vessels and deep-lying capillaries. As a result, the lipolysis-metabolic process of fat breakdown improves and the volume of subcutaneous deposits decreases.
An increase in temperature is observed in the massaged area, which contributes to the activation of metabolic processes, active circulation of blood and lymph, and the removal of toxins from tissues. At the same time, there is an increase in the production of collagen and elastin by cells, which makes the skin firm and elastic.
The main massage techniques are pressing, patting, active kneading, pinching, gripping in different directions and intensity. Alternate techniques with stroking and vigorous rubbing.
Buccal
Sculptural-buccal massage is distinguished by a combination of external and internal effects on the area being treated.
During the session, force is allowed from the inside and outside, which becomes a common cause of pain and discomfort in patients. In buccal massage, the appearance of pain is used to judge the correctness of the techniques, but its absence indicates insufficient development or ignorance of the massage technique. After the session, the pain is replaced by a feeling of pleasant fatigue in the muscles, like after a good sports workout.
The first session usually lasts no more than 15 minutes. Over time, the work increases to 40 minutes or more. Massaging begins with warming up the facial muscles. All movements coincide with the massage lines, and the pressure and intensity increases gradually. To warm up, use stroking, gripping and rubbing. At the second stage of the session, the cheeks are worked from the ears to the lips from the inside, for which the massage master inserts the middle and index fingers into the patient’s mouth. Active and sharp movements are used to massage the chewing and facial muscles, and the session ends with energetic pats on the cheeks.
After a massage course, the skin of the face tightens, the oval becomes clear, the corners of the mouth rise and even deep wrinkles disappear. The massage is effective for people over 35 years old with the first pronounced signs of skin aging. There are no indications for sculptural-buccal massage before the age of 35.

Execution technique
The technique of sculptural facial massage involves exposure along 3 lines:
- along the jaw to lift and align the chin and cheeks;
- along the cheekbone to improve the oval of the face;
- along the eyebrow to eliminate sagging eyelids.
During the session, certainty and sequence of movements must be observed. Before the procedure, the skin is cleansed and massage oil is applied. You can use either ready-made or a mixture based on base oil and esters.
Massaging always begins with working out the cervical-collar area, the back and side surfaces of the neck and deep muscles. Then they go through the front of the neck and the area of the second chin.
They begin to work on the face using stroking and kneading techniques. Movements should be soft, because their goal is to prepare the skin for deeper effects. Then they move on to more aggressive kneading and gripping, rolling the skin between the phalanges of the fingers, pressing on biologically active points and squeezing along massage lines.
When performing techniques, the massage master increases the amplitude, speed and intensity of movements. This is due to the need to work on deep muscles and bone structure. The pressure force can reach up to 5-6 kg per cm of skin. All work is carried out only with the pads and phalanges of the fingers.
Self-massage rules
It is impossible to carry out a full-fledged sculptural facial massage on your own, since the technique involves the use of many complex techniques, understanding of anatomy and physiology. But for home use, a simplified technique has been developed that allows you to get good results and significantly improve the condition of your skin. To conduct sessions correctly, you must at least follow the training video.
Home sessions can be done daily or every other day. They will help improve muscle condition, reduce wrinkles, tighten the oval of the face, improve the color and structure of the skin. All movements are performed along massage lines from top to bottom, and the eye area is massaged from the inner edge along the upper eyelid and from the outer corner of the eye along the lower one.
On the days of the massage, you need to drink more pure (purified) water, and it is better to refuse food 2 hours before and after the procedure. Also, on the day of the massage session, it is better to exclude fatty and sweet foods, alcohol, strong tea and coffee, and spicy foods from the diet. To cleanse the skin before the session, take steam baths with herbs or a hot compress, and then apply massage oil.
To carry out a sculptural facial massage, it is better to use natural oil, and use jojoba, argan, shea, coconut, almond or avocado oil as a basis.
Self-massage technique
Sculptural facial massage at home begins with stroking, which is carried out over the décolleté and face with two palms. The treatment relaxes the skin and prevents the formation of stretch marks, bruises and capillary damage.
A session of sculptural massage of the neck and forearm is carried out in 3 stages:
- first: pressure is applied with the pads and phalanges of the fingers. You need to start moving along the back of the neck to the back of the head, and the pressure increases gradually;
- second: along the back surface of the neck they pass with rolling movements with increasing pressure;
- third: intensive kneading of the muscles of the neck and forearm. It is recommended to carry out the reception to maximum depth and with maximum pressure.
You should also massage the décolleté area according to the following scheme:
- tilt the head back and do several water mill techniques, stroking the entire area from bottom to top;
- drainage of the lymph nodes using pressure with the pads of the fingers, hands or back of the hand;
- intensive stroking of the entire treated area.
Then they move on to correcting the oval of the face:
- the cheeks are passed through rotational movements using the pads of the fingers;
- the contour of the face is actively pinched;
- The muscle attachment points are done using pinpoint techniques.
The session is completed with light and fading strokes to relieve muscle tension and restore skin breathing.
Buccal massage
You can also perform buccal deep tissue massage at home. The procedure begins by inserting the thumb into the mouth and massaging the inside of the cheek wall. Then, using circular movements, they are pulled from the jaw to the auricle.
Nasolabial folds are treated like this: with one hand they lift the skin from the outside, and with the thumb of the other hand they massage it from the inside from bottom to top. The corners of the lips are kneaded in the same way. It is necessary to press with maximum force, but not to provoke the appearance of acute pain or bruises.
Finally, massage the chin from the center to the sides.
The result of regular sessions is a lifting effect, strengthening the muscles involved in facial work, improving the movement of biological fluids and the mobility of muscle tissue.
Simple self-massage
A simple sculptural facial massage begins with kneading the skin with the fingers of the palm. Kneading is carried out slowly, affecting all zones and areas. Movements can take place both from top to bottom and in the opposite direction. If painful points are detected, the effect is continued until the discomfort is eliminated. When massaging the forehead, they also go along the hairline.
Then the face is subjected to intense and painful pinching. Start with the oval line of the face, running along the lower edge of the jaw from the chin to the auricle. The direction of movement is only from bottom to top. The cheeks are worked along parallel lines and synchronously.
After pinching the lips, move on to the tip of the nose, the bridge of the nose, the area around the eyes and the area of the outer corner of the eye. The eyebrows, glabellar fold, forehead and hairline are pinched with greater intensity.
Then the entire area of treatment is covered with light pats. The technique should not cause pain, and in the eye area the force is reduced to vibration. The last claps massage the neck and décolleté area. The session is completed by massaging the ears in the following sequence: kneading, twisting, pulling. When used correctly, a burning or tingling sensation should occur.
Sculptural massage courses are often compared in effectiveness to surgical facelifts. A properly performed session not only improves facial contour and increases muscle tone, but also activates regeneration processes, helps remove toxins from cells, relieves swelling and improves the structure of the skin. The technique differs in complexity, because elaboration includes a whole complex of classical, point, Tibetan and other techniques. In classical sculptural massage there are three types: buccal, liposculptural and myostructural. Sculptural self-massage can be performed at home to improve the condition of the skin, but it is done according to a simplified scheme and only includes techniques that can be performed independently.
What defects does it help eliminate?
Due to the high intensity of massage manipulations, non-surgical changes in the structure and tightening of tissue occur, so the technique effectively eliminates the following problems:
- loss of firmness and elasticity of the epidermis with deterioration of its color and relief;
- changes in the contours and oval of the face;
- swelling of the face and area around the eyes;
- double chin;
- deep wrinkles, nasolabial folds;
- spasms of the facial muscles;
- facial wrinkles;
- muscle tissue atrophy;
- deterioration of lymph outflow from the deep layers of the dermis;
- slowing down the neuroreceptor function of the face;
- low hydration (dry) skin.
After the procedure, most patients note soreness in the facial muscle tissues, similar to the sensations in the body after undergoing high-intensity physical activity.
The result of a well-executed sculptural massage will be smooth, young, fresh skin, in which the aging process is suspended and obvious signs of age-related changes are eliminated.
