Treatment of demodicosis using sulfur ointment

Sulfur ointment is a well-known remedy for the treatment of skin diseases of various etiologies. It effectively helps with such a complex inflammatory process as demodicosis, the pathogenic agent of which is the subcutaneous demodex mite. With excessive reproduction, hair follicles, mucous membranes of the eyelids, and sebaceous glands are affected. People who have problems with hormonal levels, gastrointestinal tract organs, and weak immunity are at risk for this disease. People with poor health can become infected with demodicosis through the personal belongings of the patient, through close contact with an infected person and pet.

Composition of sulfur ointment

The product has a thick, yellowish consistency and is available in concentrations of 10% and 33%. The product actively fights various types of parasites and bacteria and stops their growth.

Compound:

  • the main component is sulfur;
  • water;
  • Vaseline oil;
  • emulsifier.

Brief indications for use: mycosis, demodicosis, seborrhea, psoriasis, lichen, sycosis, scabies and other bacterial lesions of the face.

pharmachologic effect

Sulfur ointment is prescribed for external use, distributed over the affected areas of the eyelids and face. It acts by contacting the tissues of parasites and restores the epidermis. Sulfur relieves inflammation, redness, and has a disinfecting effect. Various fungi and skin diseases respond well to treatment with sulfur ointment.

When the product is applied to the skin, sulfur interacts with organic substances, as a result of which pentathionic acid and sulfides begin to be released, which are capable of restoring epidermal cells.

Patient reviews

Despite its low cost, sulfur ointment for demodicosis is several times more effective than other, more expensive medications. Recovered patients leave mostly positive reviews about treatment with sulfur ointment.

Ekaterina, 28 years old

For a long time I couldn’t get rid of acne and pimples. I tried many remedies, including very expensive ones, and was treated by different cosmetologists. Already desperate, I turned to a dermatologist. As prescribed by the doctor, she underwent a course of treatment with sulfur ointment against subcutaneous mites. Got rid of acne once and for all.

Elena, 30 years old

I have been struggling with acne on my face for more than 10 years, but they still appear with noticeable consistency. Imported cosmetics, expensive cleanings, and courses of antibiotics do not help. I saw a positive result only after using sulfur ointment.

Kirill, 20 years old

Due to the constant appearance of acne, I felt insecure in communicating with others, especially with representatives of the opposite sex, and began to develop complexes. Friends and family reassured me, saying that these were age-related problems associated with hormonal changes in the body, and they would soon pass. I turned to a dermatologist, and he prescribed me treatment for demodicosis with sulfur ointment. I finally got rid of terrible acne.

Who is the demodex mite and how does sulfur act on the parasite?

The demodex mite has a microscopic size of up to 1 mm, a worm-shaped transparent body, so it is impossible to notice them with the human eye. Their favorite habitat and breeding environment is the sebaceous gland of the face or body, hair follicles on the head and eyelashes. Cosmetics, follicle cells, subcutaneous fat are food for these parasites.

The tick of this subspecies reproduces very quickly; when it dies, it leaves behind younger offspring, so it is difficult to defeat. If this disease is detected, treatment must be started immediately, since demodex can spread unpleasant symptoms throughout the body. With an inflammatory process on the scalp, the patient soon begins to experience severe hair loss, up to the appearance of bald patches, as parasites suck out all the beneficial substances from the follicles. When the disease develops in the eye area, demodicosis can cause serious ophthalmological pathologies.

Treatment of the disease requires patience. Sulfur ointment has a low price, and it is quite effective against demodicosis, but it has some disadvantages: it dries the skin, has an unpleasant odor, and can leave greasy marks on clothes.

Vaseline, which is included in the composition, covers the skin with a durable film, depriving the mites of oxygen. The resulting sulfides paralyze the parasite, and subsequently it dies. The life cycle of the insect does not allow you to get rid of it after several uses of the drug; the course of treatment is prescribed by a doctor and is carried out under supervision.

Most often, to combat demodex, experts prescribe the product at a concentration of 33%, since when using this particular version of the ointment, a rapid restorative cosmetic effect is observed:

  • the product in this concentration softens the affected epidermis;
  • peels off damaged particles of epidermal tissue, due to which new tissue cells begin to be actively produced;
  • improves blood flow and flow;
  • activates metabolism;
  • reduces discomfort.

The familiar sulfur ointment at a concentration of 10% has the following effects:

  • alleviates the patient's condition, reduces itching, inflammation, redness;
  • destroys ticks;
  • quickly restores skin tissue after shallow lesions.

Sulfur causes peeling and a feeling of tightness of the skin; the product should not be applied to healthy areas of the epidermis; it can only be used in a strictly prescribed dosage.

Treatment of demodicosis with folk remedies

Demodicosis is a common disease that affects the skin of the face, ears and especially the eyelids. A microscopic mite called the acne gland loves to settle along the eyelash line, in the moist environment of the conjunctiva. A sick person notices redness, swelling of the eyelids, a feeling of constant eye fatigue, and photophobia. Small scales are visible on the eyelashes, the eyelids itch, and all the time it feels as if sand was poured into the eyes.

Treating demodicosis is very long and difficult, because the mite is extremely tenacious, in addition, the patient constantly becomes infected again through bed linen and towels, or when he rubs his itchy eyelids with dirty fingers. Treatment of demodicosis with folk remedies is very important because it really helps, unlike some pharmaceutical drugs that cause only temporary improvement. Let's look at the most effective and proven recipes.

Bitter wormwood will help against demodicosis

To prepare a healing decoction of wormwood, take a couple of tablespoons of dry crushed herb and pour a liter of boiling water over it, then boil for five minutes and leave in a warm place for at least three hours. This folk remedy for demodicosis is taken orally according to a special regimen for six days, without interrupting treatment even at night:

  • Monday – half a glass every hour;
  • Tuesday – half a glass every couple of hours;
  • Wednesday-Saturday – half a glass every three hours.

For every day of such a “wormwood marathon” it is necessary to prepare a fresh portion of the decoction. You can sweeten it with honey. During treatment, you will not only eradicate the hated mite, but also perfectly cleanse the intestines.

Homemade ointments for demodicosis

You can prepare very effective ointments against demodicosis right at home. Both folk remedies and traditional medicines sold in every pharmacy will be useful to you. Their combination often works much better, and homemade ointment is cheaper than ready-made products.

Here are the best recipes:

  • Buy trichopolum at the pharmacy. Every evening before going to bed, grind two tablets in a spoon of castor oil, and carefully apply the resulting ointment to the mite-affected eyelids. Rub it in lightly and leave until your morning wash;
  • A simple folk remedy based on celandine will help eliminate demodicosis of the facial skin. Fill a glass of fresh roots with the same amount of refined sunflower oil, and leave the jar with this mixture in the sun for a couple of weeks. Then strain and store the resulting liquid in a dark glass bottle in the refrigerator. Mix it with sour cream and apply it to your face as an ointment before going to bed. Rub the same oily liquid into the skin of the eyelids and ears, and also bury it in the nose, because the mite lives there too;
  • Get some natural apple cider vinegar at 6% concentration and use it as a healing ointment. Just make sure your eyes are closed tightly when you wipe your eyelids with vinegar.

Compresses and lotions for demodicosis of the eyelids

You can cope with ticks with the help of healing compresses and lotions.

It’s very easy to prepare them, here are the best folk remedies for demodicosis:

  • Boil a teaspoon of crushed oak bark in a glass of boiling water for about five minutes, and use this warm broth to apply lotions to your eyes;
  • Squeeze the juice of indoor aloe onto a sterile bandage and apply to the inflamed eyelids several times a day;
  • Stock up on plenty of fresh garlic. Rub the cloves on a fine grater, wrap in a sterile bandage and apply to your eyes for half an hour, changing the lotions every ten minutes.

Face masks against demodicosis

The unfortunate mite causes pink acne on the face, which greatly spoils the appearance. More precisely, the rash is caused not by the tick itself, but by its waste products. The sebaceous glands become inflamed, the pores expand and become clogged. What should I do? Folk remedies for demodicosis of the facial skin will help:

  • Any acidic juices, whether from berries, fruits or medicinal herbs, thoroughly spoil the life of ticks, depriving them of a nutrient medium. Prepare masks from lemon, blueberries, currants, celandine, mixing the sour treat with egg white if your facial skin is oily, or with yolk if it is dry;
  • There are herbs that have a soothing effect on irritated skin. We all know about them: they are chamomile, sage, calendula, string. You can prepare decoctions according to the instructions on the pack and apply sterile gauze soaked in the healing liquid to the face affected by demodicosis. These homemade masks are very effective;
  • Grate a couple of sour apples and half the weight of fresh horseradish on a fine grater. Mix and apply this folk remedy to a previously cleansed face with lotion. You need to leave this mask on for about fifteen minutes, but if the skin is too hot, remove it earlier. Immediately after completing the procedure, rinse your face with whey and apply Lassara paste, which is easy to find at the pharmacy. In the morning, wash your face not with soap, but with special milk or baby shampoo. And then apply men’s aftershave cream to your face, preferably domestically produced.

Treatment of demodicosis with ointment

Demodex is a subcutaneous mite, and demodicosis is a disease of it. With this disease, the skin of the face becomes very red. Often the medications prescribed by the doctor do not help at all, and then folk remedies, including demodicosis, come to the rescue.

One reader fell ill with this disease and was completely at a loss. I read in the newspaper how you can cure demodicosis on your own. Take pure grease, olive oil, birch tar (it is sold at a veterinary pharmacy). Mix all the ingredients in equal quantities and wipe your face with this ointment.

After she used this folk remedy, the demodicosis went away, and the skin became clean and beautiful, the wrinkles smoothed out.

Treatment of demodicosis with gunpowder

To treat demodicosis, use this folk remedy, which a large number of people were treated for fourteen days, and everything went away for them. Powder 2 tablespoons of smoky black hunting powder, pour it into a bowl and mix with crushed copper sulfate (one spoon). Take two hundred grams of butter and heat it in a water bath. When it is melted, pour it into the bowl where the two powders were mixed and mix everything well.

Lubricate the affected areas with this composition, and place polyethylene on top. Secure the compress with a bandage. This compress is done at night, and in the morning you need to rinse everything off with warm water. Apply the compress again at night. The course of treatment is fourteen days.

How to cure demodicosis

It is difficult to get rid of demodicosis, but some people know many recipes for traditional treatment of demodicosis, and here is one of them.

You will need calendula tincture, which is sold at the pharmacy, and Demalan ointment. When you wake up, wash your face and pat dry with a towel so that your face is not wet. Then take calendula and fifteen minutes after washing, wipe your face with it. After another five minutes, apply a thin layer of ointment to your face. So leave the ointment until the evening, and then wash with soap and wipe your face with calendula tincture, but you don’t need to apply the ointment.

Treat in this way for forty days and constantly change the pillowcase, and do not forget to iron it.

Folk ointment for demodicosis

Take fresh pork lard and melt it in a water bath. At this time, it is necessary to grind the sulfur in a porcelain bowl. Mix these two ingredients in an enamel bowl and add two tablespoons of birch tar. At the same time, take one and a half tablespoons of lard, which has already melted, and three grams of crushed sulfur. The container with this composition must be placed on low heat and wait until the mixture boils, then boil for another three minutes. Pour the mixture into a jar and wait until the ointment hardens.

Use this ointment every day, lubricating your face at night. In the morning, wash off the ointment with warm water and baby soap. Do these procedures every day for three months, and you will definitely recover.

Treatment of demodicosis with garlic compresses

Take six cloves of garlic and grind it to the consistency of sour cream, pour half a teaspoon of sunflower oil over it and mix everything. Transfer this composition to a bandage, which should be sterile and folded in two layers, and apply to the affected area of the skin. Place cellophane on top and secure everything with a bandage.

Keep this compress for half an hour, then remove and wash your skin with warm water and tar soap. Dry your skin with a towel.

In conclusion, we would like to say that although folk remedies against demodicosis are effective, they should not be used without consulting a dermatologist. Actually, the diagnosis of demodicosis is made in the laboratory based on the study of skin scrapings or analysis of eyelashes. The doctor must prescribe treatment and clarify whether the traditional recipes you have chosen are suitable as an auxiliary therapy.

Sulfur ointment for the treatment of demodicosis

Sulfur ointment has proven itself well in the treatment of demodicosis. It is prescribed in combination with salicylates and antibacterial agents.

Medicinal properties

Sulfur ointment is a multidisciplinary remedy and is successfully used to treat:

  • scabies;
  • psoriasis;
  • fungal infections;
  • seborrheic dermatitis;
  • pityriasis rosea;
  • acne;
  • lice.

In addition to sulfur, which is the main active ingredient, it contains water and petroleum jelly. When applied to the skin, the components of the ointment interact with its organic substances, resulting in the formation of various sulfides and pantothenic acid. It is these substances that have an antiparasitic and antimicrobial effect, paralyzing and immobilizing the tick.

7-9 minutes after application, the product acts on ticks, paralyzing them, and after half an hour it destroys them. Sulfides have a beneficial effect on the dermis, restore and heal it, relieve itching and irritation.

Treatment of demodicosis is usually complex. Its duration depends on many factors; complete recovery may occur in a month, or may take a year.

Forms of release of sulfur ointment

To make an ointment, dry sulfur is crushed and mixed with petroleum jelly. They produce ointment with 8-10% or 33% sulfur content in aluminum tubes or glass jars. The shelf life of the drug is 2 years.

An ointment with a lower sulfur content (8-10%) is used to localize skin tumors on the head. The drug softens rough skin layers, relieves itching, and relieves skin irritations. Daily rubbing will restore damage to the dermis within just a few days. The effect of using ointment with sulfur for demodicosis is visible after 2-3 days: the skin stops itching and acquires a healthy color.

To get rid of demodicosis, especially advanced ones with extensive neoplasms and skin damage, use a drug with a 33% sulfur content. It helps to increase blood supply and irritate sensitive receptors. Due to the high sulfur content, the drug dries out the dermis, so it must be properly moisturized. When treating advanced diseases, it is necessary to adhere to a special diet and increased hygiene requirements.

How to use sulfur ointment

To treat demodicosis, one drug is selected per course. It is impossible to use several anti-tick medications on an ointment basis at the same time, as this is fraught with skin complications. Even qualified doctors do not prescribe two medications for topical use at once. The quality of treatment does not depend on the number of drugs used. If the desired result after treatment is not achieved, a repeat course is prescribed or the drug is changed.

Sulfur ointment is used only for external use:

  • it should be applied to previously washed with soap, clean and dry skin, covering healthy areas around the affected areas;
  • Particular care should be taken to lubricate hard-to-reach places (between the toes and hands, elbow bends and armpits).
  • the ointment should be applied in a thin layer, without rubbing and with caution so as not to unnecessarily irritate the skin;
  • For the same reason, you shouldn’t wipe the affected area with a towel either, just lightly blot it.

Applying ointment for demodicosis

The drug acts on the pathogen for three hours, after which it must be washed off with plenty of warm water. The treatment procedure is repeated once a day or more often as prescribed by the doctor. If the composition is applied at night, then it is necessary to regularly change clothes and bedding. The treatment causes severe peeling of the skin, in which the parasitic mites die off.

The duration of the usual course of therapy is 5 days. Only the attending physician can extend the course of treatment. It is not recommended to use sulfur ointment for more than 10 days, as skin irritation is possible. In complex and advanced cases, the doctor selects individual treatment. After completion of therapy, medications cannot be used as prophylaxis.

Safety of sulfur ointment

In addition to its high efficiency, sulfur ointment has another huge advantage - safety in use. It is prescribed to patients who have contraindications to the use of other strong drugs. The composition of the ointment is safe for pregnant and lactating women and newborn babies.

The only contraindication to the use of sulfur ointment is individual intolerance to its components.

In addition, compared to other medicinal ointments, the drug practically does not lead to dry skin. This happens in isolated cases, which indicates the safety of the product.

Side effects

In some cases, long-term use of drugs containing sulfur can cause:

  • allergic reaction;
  • burning;
  • itching

If this happens, the remaining ointment should be thoroughly washed off. Unpleasant symptoms will disappear after a short time.

Sulfur ointment smells unpleasant, the odor is strong and it cannot be washed off. At the end of treatment, clothing and bedding soaked in the ointment will have to be thrown away.

At the end of treatment, it is recommended to throw away items that are saturated with ointment.

Side effects

The use of sulfur ointment by many patients has not revealed any particular side effects; they can only appear with an overdose of the drug:

  • allergic reactions;
  • itching and redness of the area around the rash;
  • skin burn;
  • burning.

It is strictly prohibited to make a diagnosis, make decisions about the choice of remedy, and the duration of therapy; some thoughtless actions can cause additional harm.

It is important when the first symptoms of demodicosis appear: itching of the head, face, eyes, lumpiness of the skin, redness, purulent rashes or pimples similar to diathesis, sticking of the eyelids, blurred vision, lacrimation - have time to contact an infectious disease specialist or dermatologist at the onset of the disease to facilitate treatment and to avoid complications.

The duration of treatment with sulfur ointment depends on the individual characteristics of the patient’s immunity and epidermal layer; the course can last from 1 to 12 months. The results from using this drug are positive in most cases. Provided you follow the instructions, dosage, storage conditions, and follow the course, there is a 100% elimination of demodex.

Sulfur ointment for demodex - patient reviews

Of course, such a remedy as sulfur ointment is familiar to many of us. At the same time, the scope of its application is extremely wide - many patients talk about their own experience of using such products in the fight against allergies, rashes, post-acne, as well as in eliminating herpes and scabies!

Today we are talking about the fight against such a disease as demodex, so we will focus on the reviews of patients who encountered a similar problem and chose sulfur ointment for treatment:

By and large, no one has found any negative effects of sulfur liniment. All patients who were dissatisfied with the use of such an ointment, after applying the ointment, encountered manifestations of tightness and flaking of the skin, as well as various allergic manifestations.

Many people mention the aggressive effect on the skin, the appearance of redness “like after peeling.”

And yet, even under such conditions, clear improvements in skin condition and a decrease in the number of rashes were recorded:

  • One of the main arguments in favor of using sulfur ointment is its affordability. All patients talk about this fact;
  • The key drawback is a very specific smell, which is really quite difficult to completely get rid of. Most also mention the fact that the smell often remains on clothes, from where it is also very problematic to remove it. And yet, this is only a side drawback, because the ointment still performs its main effect - it relieves the disease, as evidenced by the following reviews;
  • Many patients applied the product before bedtime and even for 24 hours, arguing that in the middle of the night demodex demonstrates the greatest effectiveness of its action. And this is actually true - the tick conducts its main life activities at night. However, it is worth focusing on the simple fact that there is a risk of getting irritated and very reddened facial skin after a few days of overly active use of the ointment;
  • Patients also note a clear improvement in large numbers, subject to a long-term refusal to use old decorative cosmetics and means for applying them. And this makes sense, because decorative cosmetics are often initially infected with mites such as demodex. Therefore, after a course of treatment, it makes sense to purchase new cosmetics and care products. Just throw away everything old. The same goes for pillowcases and towels, which should be changed and washed thoroughly as often as possible! And after washing, it wouldn’t hurt to iron and steam your clothes and linen well;
  • Often patients also report a combination of using sulfur ointment and proper balanced nutrition. People who eliminated chocolate and sugar, spicy and fatty foods from their diet as much as possible were able to achieve faster and more sustainable results. Therefore, there is no point in underestimating integrated approaches to treatment. Be sure to think about adjusting your diet;
  • There are also reviews indicating the return of various signs of the disease after a short course of treatment. This means that under no circumstances should you interrupt the process of treating the disease - be sure to complete the course of treatment from beginning to end! Only this will ultimately help combat the rapid reproduction of ticks and get rid of it once and for all. At the same time, any untreated disorder can return at any time, and even with renewed vigor.
