How are they formed
A pimple is an inflammation in any layer of the skin, which externally looks like an unevenness, a tubercle. In normal condition, the epidermis is able to independently protect itself from microbes that hover around.
When the immune system is weakened, bacteria accumulate, which the body tries to isolate, and a pimple appears.
Stages and types
If you follow the development of acne from the very beginning, you can identify 4 stages:
- Pore blockage. This may be due to both improper care and excess sebum secretion, which the body is unable to get rid of in a short time. A black dot or bump appears on the surface of the skin.
- It's time to continue to function fully and secrete sebum. Now a lot depends on whether there are bacteria in the pimple or not. If they are, then the contents of the pimple are excellent food for them. Pathogens begin to become more active, and the pimple begins to grow.
- The development of a pimple is already so strong that its contents can come out at any time, even with slight pressure. In the worst case, the mass with bacteria will get into the deep layers of the skin.
- This stage is when acne spreads to other areas of the skin. The bacteria accumulated in one pore is enough to cause acne to appear all over the face.
Only dermatologists and cosmetologists know all types of acne thoroughly. More often, rashes are divided into two main subgroups - inflamed and non-inflamed. The latter are most often called comedones, which can be open or closed.
Rashes with inflammation have their own classification:
- Pustules. In these formations, the cavity is filled with pus. Externally, they have a white head on the surface. Their removal must be approached with great care, since it is the fight against pustules that usually causes the appearance of scars.
- The rashes are red. They do not contain purulent contents. Removing such pimples usually leaves no marks.
- Knots. Essentially it is a collection of rashes with inflammation. The difference is not only in quantity. The nodes affect the deep layers of the skin.
- Cysts. Crowded nodes lead to their formation. They are connected to each other by voids - fistulas. Home removal for skin cysts can lead to serious problems, including blood poisoning. As for the return of cleanliness and smooth skin, even an experienced dermatologist cannot guarantee this.
Contraindications
There is a list of contraindications under which it is not recommended to squeeze out pimples and blackheads, especially on your own. So, this cannot be done if:
- the skin is very sensitive, often inflamed, even ordinary scratches do not heal well on it,
- there are deep pimples - nodules and cysts (when they are squeezed out, ugly keloid scars are formed and the risk of re-formation of ulcers increases),
- pimples are located in the area of the nasolabial folds (due to the peculiarities of the blood supply in these areas, there is a risk of purulent meningitis in case of unsuccessful pimple removal),
- acne regularly appears in the same place (squeezing will be ineffective; first you should be examined by a gastroenterologist, endocrinologist and, possibly, a neurologist).
If you are wondering how to squeeze out a pimple on your nose, remember the composer Alexander Scriabin, who died at 43 after trying to squeeze out a pimple on his face on his own. He developed sepsis, which was fatal in the early 20th century.
Nowadays, this disease can be treated, but you still shouldn’t play with your health .
Therefore, it is strictly forbidden to touch any purulent formations in the area of the nose and nasolabial folds.
From here the blood flow is directed to the brain, so any infection poses a direct threat to life.
How to squeeze pimples correctly and safely
The main thing in this matter is the absolute sterility of the process. This means that a person’s skin, hands, and the products he will use must be absolutely clean.
If the skin at the site of the pimple is very inflamed, red, and even any touch to it causes pain, then it is better to have a specialist procedure done. It is undesirable to squeeze out acne during menstruation; it is better for a woman to wait until the end of her critical days.
On the face
It is on this significant part of the body that people most often carry out various manipulations. Starting from adolescence, each pimple brings its “owner” a lot of inconvenience, the main one of which is increased attention from the interlocutor and passers-by. Pimples on the face must be squeezed out correctly, using modern devices and objects.
On the body
Pimples on the body do not appear so often, and usually their appearance is associated with a person’s lack of cleanliness. With the onset of summer, the amount of fat secreted by skin cells increases, and it is not always possible to clean the pores.
Acne on the body can be with or without inflammation. Rashes that are localized at the site of friction with clothing or accessories (shoulders, lower back) are considered especially dangerous.
Such acne must be removed, and then measures must be taken to prevent the appearance of a new rash.
At home
Not always and not everyone has the opportunity to take care of their skin in a salon setting. It is better to learn on your own how to remove acne on the face and body; besides, today stores have all the necessary products for this.
The main thing is to carefully read the instructions for using pimple squeezers and follow all recommendations.
Technique
It seems that the easiest way to squeeze out pimples is with your hands, but this simplicity turns into trouble. This does not mean that it is impossible to remove rashes with your hands, just that few people can do this safely without damaging or affecting neighboring areas of the epidermis.
Today on sale you can find many devices designed to squeeze out any pimples. Mostly these products are of Asian origin, which is not surprising, because women in Asian countries are simply obsessed with clean skin and are ready to do anything for the beauty of their face and body. Their knowledge is now successfully applied throughout the world.
An important rule that applies to all devices for getting rid of rashes is to clean them as they become dirty. It is advisable to clean these items after each pimple.

Spoon Uno
This is one of the most popular acne removal tools. The Uno spoon is made of metal and consists of a handle, at the end of which there is an extension with a recess resembling a spoon. There is a hole in the center of the Uno spoon.
Before the procedure, it is necessary to steam your face. The technique for squeezing a pimple is as follows. The Uno spoon is placed on the skin so that the pimple is located directly in the center of the device and rises above the metal part. To squeeze out a pimple, you need to slightly move the spoon, and its contents will remain in the tool.
The Uno spoon copes especially well with closed acne and comedones. Among its advantages is hygiene, which is observed in relation to other areas of the skin, because the contents of the pimple do not come into contact with the cells of the epidermis.
The methods listed below for removing acne (loop, spatula, strainer) are essentially similar methods. Moreover, manufacturers often install two nozzles on one product on opposite sides.
This is very convenient because even one person can have different types of acne on their face. Among them, the Uno spoon is preferable because it is universal compared to the others.
Loop
The loop-shaped pimple removal tool allows you to get rid of single breakouts. It is also sometimes called the Vidal loop.
The cleansing procedure is performed as follows. First, the face is steamed to open the pores as much as possible. The loop is then placed so that the pimple is directly in the center.
All that remains is to press lightly on the instrument, causing the contents of the pore to come out. In some cases, when the pimple is not completely cleared, you have to repeat the procedure, but no more than two times. If you cannot remove the pimple even after repeated steaming, then you need to change the cleaning method.
As a rule, a loop is used in cases where the contents of a pimple are a dense, fat-like mass. If the consistency is more like a cream, then you won’t be able to completely squeeze out the pimple with a loop.
Spatula
This is a small metal device with one end widened. They need to kind of pry the pimple, and then apply a little force, press, and the contents of the pimple will come out.
Strainer
This device is very similar to a Uno spoon, only the strainer has several holes instead of one on the surface. This allows you to get rid of several pimples and blackheads at once. The procedure technique is almost the same.
Most often, a strainer is used to get rid of acne in the nasolabial triangle. Using a strainer does not cause pain on this sensitive area of the face.
Another advantage is the ability to deal with a large number of acne at the same time. Typically, a strainer is used to catch black comedones.
needle
This method is one of the simplest and most popular. This requires a sterile needle. This can be either a sewing needle or part of a sterile syringe.
So, after cleansing the skin, you need to lightly pierce the pimple with a needle. Next, you need to squeeze it out with your fingers from bottom to top so that its contents flow onto the surface of the rash and do not affect other areas.
It is very important that the needle is clean and sharp! If a person has to apply force to press on the needle, then this instrument is not suitable for such procedures. This way you can only intensify the nascent inflammatory process.
What needs to be done after?
After mechanically squeezing out the pimple, a small protective crust will form on the skin. It cannot be picked off; it is needed to ensure complete healing and prevent scarring. Special medications, for example, Curiosin, Solcoseryl or Actovegin, will help the body recover faster.
If, after some time, the squeezed pimple begins to become inflamed—it turns red, hurts, and collects pus—you need to begin targeted treatment as soon as possible. In such a situation, you will most likely have to use local products with antibacterial components, for example, Levomekol or Baneocin ointments.
Inflamed pimples on the face are a serious reason to consult a dermatologist, especially if they arose after not very successful mechanical squeezing.
Which ones should not be pressed?
Not all pimples can be removed with the listed devices.
What types of pimples should not be removed:
- Any rash in which the inflammatory process is clearly visible. First, you need to calm the epidermal cells as much as possible and eliminate active inflammation, and only then start squeezing out the pimple. In this situation, it is better to go to a beauty salon.
- Boils. These rashes are distinguished by purulent contents. An active inflammatory process develops in the boil.
- Carbuncles. When boils come together, a carbuncle is formed. You cannot treat it yourself! Moreover, you should not trust such education to a cosmetologist, but it is better to seek help from a dermatologist or even a surgeon.
- Pyoderma. In this case, inflammation affects the deep layers of the skin. As a rule, such rashes occur due to a combination of circumstances, including decreased immunity and microcracks in the skin. As in previous cases, this purulent rash should not be squeezed out on its own.
- Herpetic rashes. If the pimple is caused by herpes, then squeezing it out has a chance of spreading the infection to other areas of the skin.
- Cuperosis. In this situation, the purulent contents of the pimple can enter the bloodstream through dilated vessels, and therefore it is better to contact a professional.
And of course, if a person has a dermatological disease, and at the moment there is an exacerbation of it, then it is better to wait until it enters the stage of remission.
Why is self-medication of such acne dangerous? In addition to scars that may remain at the site of extrusion, a person faces serious complications, including blood poisoning.

I squeezed out the pimple strictly according to the instructions and burned it with salicylic acid. But after a couple of days, an abscess formed there again.
Expert's comment: In all likelihood, you either did not squeeze out all the pus contained in the pore, or did not sufficiently treat the wound afterwards. Got an infection. We'll have to repeat it.
Elena
A huge pimple popped up. I waited a long time for it to ripen. Apparently not long enough. I tried to squeeze it out, but it didn’t work. Now my entire chin is swollen.
Specialist comment: Apparently, the pus went inside. Contact a dermatologist, he will clear out your inflammation. You won't be able to do this on your own.

My teenage son started getting acne. I tried to squeeze it out, but it only made it worse. Now he doesn’t touch them himself, but he doesn’t give them to me either, and the problem is growing by leaps and bounds.
Expert's comment: Persuade the boy to go to a dermatologist; if the rash starts now, it will leave scars that will take much longer to heal.
Treatment
Is it possible to treat rashes that have already appeared, that is, to get rid of them without removing them? If the pimples are large and mature, then it is impossible to reverse the process, and here only squeezing is used to remove the contents from the acne cavity.
If the pimple is small, without inflammation, and caused by endocrine diseases, then there is a chance that it will resolve on its own.
Special treatment for acne includes care with antibacterial and bactericidal agents. They need to be used for a short time, not constantly, so as not to deteriorate the own flora of the upper layers of the skin, which is a natural defense.
And of course, you need to pay attention to your diet and lifestyle. Without changing your habits, treating acne is a short-sighted idea. Even successful removal of a pimple will not completely cleanse the skin and achieve its smoothness for a long time.
