In cosmetology, the “beauty injection” procedure has been very popular for the last 10 years, and it is done with two drugs - Botox and Dysport. Every day, month, year, this procedure is gaining more and more popularity. All over the world there are no drugs equal to Botox and Dysport - they smooth out facial wrinkles. But which drug is better? Today we will figure this out.
What are Botox and Dysport?
These are different injections produced by different pharmaceutical companies, but the drug for them is the same - neurotoxin type A, which is produced by the microorganism Clostridium botulinum. With these two injections you can:
- remove horizontal wrinkles on the forehead;
- remove expression wrinkles in the eye area;
- eliminate wrinkles between the eyebrows;
- eliminate wrinkles in the nose area;
- lower raised eyebrows;
- smooth out vertical wrinkles under and above the lips;
- get rid of sweating in the armpits and palms.
The duration of the Dysport injection is 6-8 months, but there are cases when the effect of Botox lasts up to 1 year. When introducing repeated injections, the time between procedures is 7-12 months. For best results, doctors strongly recommend repeating the Botox or Dysport procedure 2-3 times a year. The duration of drug treatment is unlimited, that is, a person can inject himself with Dysport and Botox throughout his life.
But still, for these injections, as for any other drugs, there are contraindications:
- Inflammatory process at the injection site
injections under the skin. - Age up to 12 years.
- Poor blood clotting.
- Taking antibiotics.
- General diseases of the body.
- Tuberculosis, group B hepatitis.
- Pregnancy.
- Lactation.
- Less than 3 months after facial surgery.
- Tendency to swelling.
- Alcoholism.
The results of Botox injection are visible already on days 2-5, although the maximum result is observed after 7 days; after Dysport, the results are visible on the 7th day, and the maximum result is observed after 2 weeks.
What is Botox
Botox is a drug for the face, the use of which allows you to make the skin more youthful - get rid of wrinkles, tighten sagging areas, etc.
This remedy is familiar to almost every person - many have heard or read about it. The wide popularity of this product is due to two factors. Firstly, Botox is the first drug of its kind, while all others are its analogues. Secondly, some time ago it was very widely advertised (through the same films, newspaper articles, etc.).
The creator and manufacturer of this product is Allergan. In the early years (since 1989) it was used exclusively in neurology. It was actively used to combat muscle spasms, as well as to correct cerebral palsy. 5 years later (in 1994) it was officially allowed in Russia.
Description of the drug
Botox is produced by the American company Allergan. When a neurotoxin is injected under the skin, the transmission of impulses along nerve fibers is blocked. Therefore, some muscle groups relax, while others tighten. Botox is the same purified natural protein, which is why it can be used throughout life.
Dysport is produced by the French pharmaceutical company Beafor-Ipsen-Spetwood. The preparations are distinguished by their technology for purifying neurotoxin type A. For deep folds, Dysport is ineffective.
The drugs should be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 6-8 degrees. The shelf life of Botox is 24 months, Dysport is 12 months from the date of manufacture.
Injections are made into the muscles that are responsible for the formation of wrinkles in a certain area of the face. To determine which muscles to inject, the client must frown and this is how the cosmetologist will see them. Botox and Dysport are injected under the skin at least 2 cm from the eyebrows. The injection is made into the muscle, with a distance of approximately 1 cm from the previous injection site. The needle is inserted at an angle of 90 degrees, to a depth of 7-10 mm.
After the procedure, for the first 30 minutes, you cannot make any movements with your face; for the next 3-4 hours you need to be in a horizontal position. Do not touch injection sites with your hands to avoid infection. After “beauty injections” it is prohibited to drink alcoholic beverages for 14 days from the date of the procedure, and visiting baths, saunas and taking hot baths during this period is also not recommended.
Recovery period
There is no rehabilitation after the procedure as such. If the recommended dosages and administration techniques are followed, the skin quickly returns to normal. The first 3 days can be observed:
- pain in the injection area;
- slight swelling;
- bruises.
If other symptoms appear (severe pain, inflammation, fever, etc.), you should immediately consult a doctor.
In the first week after the procedure you cannot:
- touch your face with your hands;
- use decorative cosmetics;
- visit a bathhouse, sauna, take a hot bath;
- expose yourself to physical activity.
What are the similarities between Botox and Dysport?
Let's look at the similarities between the two drugs:
- identical indications for use;
- same contraindications;
- one active ingredient – neurotoxin type A;
- in the cosmetology market for more than 10 years;
- have proven themselves to be the best;
- administered intramuscularly;
- their main effect is muscle relaxation;
- the same list of contraindications after injections;
- equal likelihood of side effects.
How to prepare for the drug administration procedure
Since the active substance in both drugs is the same, the preparation for the operation is the same in both cases. A week before the procedure, you must avoid:
- drinking alcohol;
- taking strong medications (including antibiotics);
- visits to the sauna, bathhouse and/or solarium;
- smoking (recommended).
This procedure also has contraindications. In particular, it should not be given to pregnant women and nursing mothers, as well as people with pathologies (chronic or acute). It is strongly recommended that you bring your medical card to an appointment with a cosmetologist for the procedure in question.
To decide which is better: American Botox or French Dysport, you need to decide what you really want: a quick and stronger effect, or a minimal risk of side effects. If the first, then you need to go for a procedure that will be carried out using Dysport, and if the second, then using Botox.
Side effects of drugs
When these drugs are administered subcutaneously, side
effects occur extremely rarely, and if they do occur, they are not significant.
Side effects:
- a sore throat;
- runny nose;
- headache;
- swelling of the eyelids and nausea;
- small hematomas that disappear after 7 days;
- slight weakness;
- pain at the site of drug injection into the muscle;
- lip asymmetry;
- swelling of the lips.
In extremely rare cases, there may be chest pain, pain when swallowing, dry eyes and distorted images in the eyes. Then you need to see a doctor.
“Beauty injections” should only be done by qualified cosmetologists who must have a license. If the procedure is performed unskillfully, the consequences may be as follows: drooping of the eyelids to such a state that it is impossible to open the eyes, asymmetry of the entire face.
A cosmetologist must be able to clearly calculate the permissible dose of Botox or Dysport for each client individually, so that there are no consequences, so that the face does not lose its attractiveness. For each area of the face that the client decided to transform, an individual dose of the drug is calculated and it is not the same, for example, for the eyelids and for the lip area.
To eliminate wrinkles above the upper lip, under the lower lip, for the area of a sagging chin, neck, and décolleté, the dose of the drug is minimal, since the muscles in this area are very small, and each is responsible for something separate.
If the drug is incorrectly administered into the lower third of the face, lip asymmetry appears, the lower lip hangs down, breathing may become difficult, and pain may appear when swallowing. But still, when the drugs are injected into the lower third of the face, chin and décolleté, the results after 5-7 days are simply stunning.
Who needs these injections?
To all those who laugh a lot, often frown and, in principle, show all their emotions to the fullest (which is right!).
Expression wrinkles can choose a victim of any age, even if the girl is in high school.
But all this can be easily eliminated in one procedure. For the most part, women begin to use Botox at the age of 25+ (when the first wrinkles appear around the eyes) and continue until they are 65 years old. Such procedures are wildly popular among all clients, and the good news is that the price is not prohibitive.
Price difference
As mentioned above, for each area, the number of injections is calculated individually for each client.
The approximate number of injections is as follows:
- injections in the forehead - 10-20 injections;
- injections in the bridge of the nose – 10-20 injections;
- injections in the neck, décolleté area – from 25 units;
- area around the lips – 6-15 injections;
- area around the eyes – 12-20 units.
Botox and Dysport cannot be bought at a pharmacy; they are sold strictly according to a cosmetologist’s prescription, or the clinic itself purchases the drugs. The price of Botox is 10% higher than Dysport. But based on customer reviews, we can conclude that for “beauty injections” the dose of Dysport is almost 3 times higher than the dose of Botox, so when calculating the price category of these drugs, we came to the conclusion that they are the same. And when it comes to the beauty of their faces, men and women have come to the conclusion that their beauty is more important to them than the difference in price between drugs.
Reviews about Botox
First, I did Botox for myself and was convinced of its unique stunning results and decided to give my mother a birthday present. She did not agree for a long time, because she is very afraid of injections. But “beauty injections” are something completely different! You almost don’t feel the injections at all. After the procedure, she and I were very pleased and will do it many more times. Natalya, Krasnoyarsk
When I was growing up, I could never have thought that if I frowned or squinted in the sun, I would get facial wrinkles. Previously, this didn’t bother me much; I had long bangs. But at one point I decided to change my style and cut off my bangs, and it became awkward that I was 32 and already had such wrinkles. I went to the clinic to see a cosmetologist, who recommended Botox injections. I immediately agreed. The experience was positive. After the injections, I did not get up for 4 hours and did not drink alcohol for 2 weeks after the procedures. The result exceeded all my expectations. Looks like she looks 10 years younger. My only regret is that I didn’t get “beauty injections” earlier. Veronica, Moscow
Hello! This year I turned 45 years old. I'm still working. Due to my profession, I must always look good. And at one point I was advised to see a cosmetologist to consult about Botox. I thought for a long time and didn’t dare. But I understood that every day I was not getting any younger, and I still went. At that time, the clinic had a promotion, “beauty injections” with a 22% discount. I corrected the forehead area, around the eyes and removed wrinkles above the upper lip. In total, they counted 36 injections for me. After the procedure, there was slight swelling of the face, which disappeared within 2 days. The result is simply amazing. I will do more. Oksana, Moscow
Reviews about Dysport
Hello! This is not the first time I have given Dysport injections, and I am always happy with it. The result is excellent. The time between procedures is about 6-7 months. I recommend to everyone. The main thing is to do it in good clinics, and not in beauty salons, where there is no license. Angela, Kyiv
I had my first skin rejuvenation procedure at 34 years old. I was very worried about wrinkles and crow's feet; it seems to me that they began to appear when I was 22 years old. This made me not feel particularly comfortable. But after Dysport, I became much more confident in myself. These injections are like magic, they even help cope with age psychologically. “Wings grew behind my back.” I recommend it. Anna, Tver
I decided to rejuvenate my skin at 33 years old. And I took this choice very seriously. It took me a long time to choose a clinic, a cosmetologist, and checked the documents allowing them to perform such procedures. And what can I tell you? It's worth it. I feel great after the procedure. There were no consequences. I'll go again in a while. Irina, Moscow
I learned about Dysport 2 years ago, when my friend used this drug. At that moment, I didn’t understand why she did it, I thought that all this was harmful and had big consequences. But I was very wrong. After a while, she persuaded me to go for a consultation with a cosmetologist before the next injection of drugs under the skin. And so I left the clinic, knowing that soon I too would go for these injections. I liked it very much. Very pleased. I will do more. The procedure is completely painless. I'm young again! Anastasia, Dnepropetrovsk
Botox and Dysport will equally make you look about 10 years younger. They are not interchangeable. It is up to you to choose which drug to use. The only necessary advice is to have it done by professionals, cosmetologists who have a license, so that there are no consequences. Don’t go after a low price, as the drug may be counterfeit, but even if it’s expensive, it doesn’t mean that the doctor is excellent. A lot depends on the cosmetologist.
