- Thread-like growths
- In the clinic
Warts are neoplasms, predominantly of viral origin, that appear in different parts of the body. Such skin defects are benign in nature, protrude above the skin and in most cases are a purely cosmetic problem, especially if the growths form on the face.

Types of warts
Modern medicine knows 5 types of warts.
- genital warts - these growths form on the mucous membranes,
- flat – found on different parts of the body,
- vulgar – located on the hands, have a dense surface shape,
- plantar - grow on the feet,
- thread-like - attack the groin area, armpits, neck and face, have an uneven edge and thin growths.
Verrucacid
Any chemical products against warts, of which there is a huge assortment in the pharmacy, should be used strictly according to the instructions. The drug “Verrukacid” is considered quite effective, used to remove filiform, plantar and common warts, as well as dry calluses.
This yellow oily liquid with a specific smell of phenol is used exclusively externally: applied strictly to warts with a wooden instrument or a special applicator, without contact with healthy skin to avoid chemical burns. It is recommended to lubricate nearby tissues with a thick cream or zinc paste at the time of treatment.
For small papillomas and filamentous warts, one treatment is sufficient; large growths (3-4 mm) should be lubricated 3-4 times intermittently, giving the liquid time to be absorbed.
Warts with a dense keratinized surface should first be softened by applying salicylic ointment or covering the problem area with polyethylene and applying a gauze bandage.
After some time, the bandage should be removed, the skin should be steamed for about a quarter of an hour in water and soda, and the keratinized areas should be cut off with forceps. The medicine should be applied after the surface has dried. Repeated treatment can be carried out a week after the crust falls off. The approximate price of the drug is 180-200 rubles.
Means and methods of control
There are many different methods for getting rid of tumors. The most common method is to cauterize warts with liquid nitrogen. The method is effective, since with a temperature difference, all vital activity in the wart cells suddenly freezes and stops. The crust that forms after the procedure initially plays the role of an antiseptic dressing, so you should not get rid of it. Sooner or later it will disappear on its own.
Another, no less effective method is cauterization with acetic acid. This method is also effective, but requires a lot of time for treatment. Doctors recommend applying a couple of drops of acid to the warts every evening, before going to bed, thereby cauterizing it.
You can also cauterize warts with celandine. The process is simple. You need to lubricate the problem area several times a day.
You can also use Super Celandine instead of celandine. It can only be used once within five days. This drug has negative properties, so it is not advisable to use it during pregnancy and apply it to the skin of the face and neck.
It is impossible not to mention burning out warts with dry ice. It is enough to apply ice to the tumor and endure the cold as long as possible. It would be better if the wart appeared recently, then the effect will not be long in coming.
But many people have a high pain threshold and cannot tolerate this cold, so the salicylic acid method of removing warts is suitable for them. You need to thoroughly steam the problem area in a hot bath and drop this solution onto the neoplasm. The procedure should be repeated until the wart disappears completely.
In the fight against papillomas, a method using iodine is also used. The product is applied strictly to the growth, while the skin around the wart must be lubricated with a thick cream in advance to avoid burns.
Causes of warts on the face
There are actually few reasons why warty growths appear on the face. In the vast majority of cases, the culprit of such defects is a virus. More precisely, HPV (human papillomavirus). The “inciter” for a viral infection to enter the skin is most often a weakening of the immune system.
Causes of warts on the face and thread-like growths
Common, juvenile, filamentous warts are the result of activation in the body of the above-mentioned papillomavirus.
It is activation, since almost everyone has this virus, but in a “dormant” state. To awaken it, factors such as irritation and microtrauma of the skin, chronic diseases, stressful conditions, hormonal changes, including pregnancy and adolescence, any conditions that weaken the immune system, increased sweating (for filamentous warts) are needed.
You can only get the virus from the outside by contact - from a person carrying the virus or through objects of common use. The papilloma virus has many types, but not all of them transform into warts. So, for example, the 3rd, 5th, 8th and 9th types of HPV are to blame for the occurrence of thread-like outgrowths.
Why does a red wart grow on the face?
Today there is no 100% accurate answer to the question of what causes vascular pathologies leading to the formation of hemangioma.
Most doctors and scientific researchers suggest that a congenital factor plays a major role here. At the same time, they do not exclude the possibility of acquiring such a “mark” during life. Among the factors that can presumably lead to the appearance of a red “wart” on the face are:
- Abuse of ultraviolet radiation (tanning in the sun and/or solarium);
- Hormonal changes;
- Problems with the liver and/or pancreas;
- Metabolic disorders or disorders in the circulatory system itself;
- Heredity;
- Diseases of the cardiovascular system;
- Traumatic injuries.
There is a viral theory of the origin of hemangiomas, as well as a version that a red “wart” is a sign of the presence of an oncological process in the body.
What causes white warts to appear on the face?
Until relatively recently, it was believed that milia were wen, that is, sebaceous glands clogged with sebum.
Now the true nature of these formations has been established. In reality, these are “bubbles” not associated with the sebaceous glands and their ducts, filled with skin keratin. They are located inside the skin, in the superficial layer of the epidermis. Often such a “bubble” or cyst is formed from a hair follicle. As in the case of hemangioma, the exact cause of the formation of white “warts” on the face has not yet been established. But there are a number of factors that can help them “thrive” on the skin. These include hormonal changes, disruption of the digestive organs and endocrine glands (pancreas, thyroid), poor nutrition, excess ultraviolet radiation, and improper skin care, especially if you are prone to oiliness.
There is evidence that such “warts” are more likely to form in middle-aged and elderly men. And there are studies that have proven that milia have no “attachment” to age and gender.
Treatment in a medical setting
In addition to treatment at home, you can see a doctor. There are many medical methods for removing papilloma.
The most common is the use of laser. The procedure takes place within 1-2 minutes under anesthesia. Wart removal is accomplished by evaporation and coagulation of skin cells. As a result, a small depression remains in its place, but after two weeks it will heal and disappear.
Electrocoagulation is also often used. The procedure is performed using a surgical coagulator and anesthesia. A high-frequency current that fits into a thin metal loop cuts off the wart and coagulates the surrounding tissue. This method guarantees no bleeding. At the end of the process, a thin crust forms in place of the previous wart, which will disappear in a week. If the wart has managed to penetrate deep into the body, then only a light scar may remain at the site of its removal.
For warts that occupy an area larger than normal ones, the method of surgical excision is applicable. Here, too, the doctor cannot do without anesthesia, but the operation is not so painful. Removal is done by applying intradermal cosmetic sutures. They are removed after seven days.
How to remove or remove warts
If you notice changes in the skin, do not rush to get rid of warts. It is likely that after a few months the condition of the skin will normalize. The main goal of removing the growth is to remove it so that scar tissue does not appear, so choosing the method for removing the growth must be done with great care. Skin lesions on the face in the genital area are best treated under the supervision of a doctor.
Folk remedies for warts
Essential oils . Treat affected areas daily with a mixture of pine and lemon oils.
- Apply a mixture of patchouli and hyssop oils to the bactericidal patch; you need to change the sticker every day.
- Mix tea tree oil, eucalyptus and thyme in equal parts, apply the mixture to the damaged areas twice a day. To strengthen the immune system, use essential oils of chamomile, citrus or lavender.
Medicinal herbs . Kalanchoe and aloe leaves help get rid of warts at home. The procedure is carried out as follows:
- To soften the formation, apply a cloth moistened with soda solution to the affected area for 10-15 minutes.
- Then a leaf of the medicinal plant is applied, having previously been stripped to pulp, and fixed with a bandage. The procedure lasts from 3 to 7 hours, the full course is 7-10 sessions.
Celandine for warts. The most popular way to combat formations, as the plant has a powerful antibacterial effect.
- The affected areas are treated with celandine juice twice a day.
- The minimum course is two weeks; in case of massive damage to the epithelium, it may take up to two months.
- If it is impossible to find a plant, you can purchase a pharmaceutical preparation based on celandine.
CONSPIRACY . Another way to get rid of warts. To carry out the ceremony, you will need a red thread 30 cm long made of natural material, such as cotton.
- When the young Moon appears in the sky, go outside, touch the growths with a thread and tie a knot in it for each one.
- When tying a thread, say the text: “A month, a young month, take this illness with you.”
- Then the thread is buried in the ground.
Skin diseases are a symptom of pathological internal processes, so you should not limit yourself to folk recipes, it is advisable to consult a doctor, find out the cause of the disease and undergo medical treatment for warts.
Pharmacy remedies for warts
Preparations for removing warts are sold in pharmacies without a prescription; choosing the best remedy is difficult, everything is determined by the individual characteristics of the patient. It is better to entrust the choice of the most effective medication to your doctor. According to the method of action, pharmaceutical products are presented in three groups:
- For cryotherapy – “Cryopharma”, “Wartner”, use according to instructions;
- Necrotizing action - “Ferezol”, “Verrukatsid”, “Vartek”, “Lapis”, “Kondolin”;
- Keratolics – “Kolomak”, “Salipod” patch.
- Papinol is a dual action agent (external + internal)
If necessary, the course of therapy is supplemented with antiviral agents (Viru-Merz gel, oxolinic ointment or Viferon wart ointment) and immunomodulators.
Laser wart removal
Doctors in many countries recommend getting rid of warts using this method; this method is recognized as the most effective for removing:
- New growths on the sole;
- Common warts;
- Flat neoplasms.
The doctor must inform the patient about all contraindications.
Features of laser exposure:
- The laser beam does not leave scars and does not cause inflammatory reactions;
- Under the influence of extreme temperatures, pathogenic microflora dies in the affected area;
- During the procedure there is no contact with the skin, this eliminates the possibility of further damage to the skin;
- The specialist controls the parameters of the laser beam - power and degree of impact, so the patient does not feel any discomfort and no complications arise;
- In 2 weeks, the skin is completely restored - a dry crust appears, after 10-14 days it disappears on its own, and a young, healthy epithelium appears under it.
The dark crust should not be torn off, go to the solarium or swimming pool; disinfectants are used for treatment.
Removing warts with liquid nitrogen
Another popular method for removing warts. For the procedure, a wooden stick with a soft cotton wool swab or a special cryoapplicator is used - a tube with a container into which the active substance is placed. At the first visit to a specialist, possible contraindications are identified. The safest method of cauterizing warts is selected:
- Soft – activates local immunity;
- Aggressive - a bubble forms under the skin, it is cut off using a hardware method along with the neoplasm.
- Pathogenic cells die under the influence of low temperature (-196 degrees), as a result, the skin becomes inflamed and immune processes are activated.
- The applicator is applied forcefully to the skin for 40-60 seconds, during which time the substance evaporates.
- To get rid of a wart, a specialist captures the surface of the skin 1 ml more than the tumor.
- After the procedure, the neoplasm acquires a white tint, a bubble appears, which after 2-3 days turns into a crust and disappears on its own.
Pharmaceutical drugs come to the rescue
Medicine does not stand still, and now a lot of drugs have been developed to help remove condylomas and papillomas.
Let's look at some of them:
- "Verrukacid." It can be used to treat filiform and plantar warts. It is produced in 10 ml bottles. You need to apply it with a special applicator, apply a maximum of 5 times,
- "Collomac". Its properties are very similar to salicylic acid. Available in the form of a solution or ointment. This product combines aggressive chemical elements, so people with sensitive skin should not use it.
- "Solcoderm". It should only be used under the personal guidance of a physician.
Reasons for appearance
Treatment should be chosen not only based on what types of tumors you find on your face, but the reasons for their appearance should also be taken into account. As a child, many people were told that warts appear if you touch a frog or toad with your hands, but in reality the causes are much more complex.
Warts on the face occur as a result of the papilloma virus entering the body through scratches, wounds and other skin lesions. This can be facilitated by contact with an already infected person or object of use, as well as as a result of poor hygiene. The virus may not manifest itself immediately; its incubation period can last for months, so it is difficult to predict its appearance. This usually happens when the body is weakened, for example, during an infectious disease or general fatigue.
The papilloma virus is present in the body of every person, but at first it is in a passive state. In addition to weakened immunity and skin damage, the following factors can serve as a stimulus for the virus to go into active attack:
- excessive sweating;
- stress;
- strong unrest;
- acrocyanosis;
- depression;
- vegetoneurosis;
- breakdown;
- oily skin;
- age-related changes in the body.
Consequences after removal
It is known that if the roots went deep under the skin and the formation was subjected to improper treatment, then a pronounced scar may remain in this place. When burning warts with liquid nitrogen, you may notice a change in skin color for about two weeks, but this is painless and should go away.
Scientists have found that a huge likelihood of scarring occurs when using home methods for excision of papilloma. Also, after removal of warts, allergic reactions on the skin and traces of burns at the site of formation occur.
Reasons for the increase in the size of the growth
During the process of growth, individual formations are able to merge together and create volumetric combinations, which is considered a typical process. If the wart has increased in size sharply, this is considered an unfavorable sign.
Other dangerous symptoms may include:
- change in color (the formation suddenly began to darken, spots appeared on the surface);
- the shape has changed;
- the appearance of itching, pain;
- the appearance of ulcers;
- the skin around is red;
- began to bleed;
- suppuration.
Human papillomavirus infection is characterized by a chronic course. One of the common reasons is a decrease in the protective function of the immune system, which leads to an exacerbation of the disease. New warts appear and old ones grow.
The following factors can influence the body's resistance to HPV infection:
- pregnancy;
- menopause;
- hypovitaminosis (especially folic, ascorbic acid, vitamin A);
- bad habits (alcohol and smoking);
- violation of the integrity of the skin and mucous membranes;
- other concomitant infections (herpes, HIV, etc.).
Recovery period
Particular attention should be paid to the rehabilitation period. If the care is high quality and correct, this will speed up the wound healing process. You should know that remaining scars should not be smeared with foundation, scrubs, lotions, ointments and chemicals.
While bathing, do not rub the painful area with a washcloth. If there is grown hair there, it will be possible to remove it only 3 weeks after the operation. Visiting the bathhouse will also have a negative impact.
You should drink vitamins A and E. This will increase the body's resistance and improve the healing process of scars. Remember that by contacting a specialist, all these consequences can be easily avoided.
Precautions for home removal
Improper treatment of growths can be complicated by wound infection, bleeding, and malignancy of the formation.
To prevent complications from developing, the following precautions must be observed:
- If pain, burning, or itching occurs, you should stop using the medications. It is advisable to seek medical help from specialists.
- Before using any product, consult your doctor.
- Do not exceed the dosage or frequency of taking medications or folk remedies.
- After removal, it is advisable to protect the pathological focus from exposure to sunlight and cosmetics for 2-3 months.
- Avoid damaging the wart.
- After removing the formation, try not to visit swimming pools, saunas, baths to prevent infection of the wound.
Prevention
Most often, in people who have had a wart removed, this tumor appears again. But secondary occurrence can always be prevented. The main thing is to lead a healthy lifestyle and eat right, not to expose yourself to stress and maintain a sleep schedule.
It is also necessary to adhere to basic rules of personal hygiene. When any wounds appear, treat them correctly, enrich the body with vitamins in a timely manner and avoid stressful situations.
Now you know how and with what to cauterize warts, how to survive their consequences and what should be done to prevent this phenomenon.
