Ringworm ointment for children, cream, tablets - effective medicines for the treatment of skin lesions

Ringworm is a dermatological disease that affects the skin and mucous membranes. It has a different etiology (nature of the disease). Occurs against the background of infection with fungi, viruses, reduced immunity, stress, and oncology.

Appears on different parts of the body. Before taking antibiotics for lichen in humans, it is necessary to understand what exactly triggered the disease. In some cases, antimicrobial drugs and antibiotics, instead of the expected results, seriously harm health.

Classification of medications

The causes of the pathology may vary, so the choice of medication is always made on an individual basis. Pityriasis versicolor can be caused by yeast-like fungi, while ringworm is caused by dermatophyte fungi. Shingles appears due to contact of the body with the Varicella-Zoster virus, pink - due to allergies.

The cause of lichen planus has not been precisely established. It is believed that metabolic problems, infections, allergies and genetic predisposition may be to blame.

Modern remedies for lichen can be divided into 2 main groups: local and systemic action. The first are gels and ointments, and the second are oral forms of drugs: these include tablets, drops, capsules. If a mild form of the disease is diagnosed, local medications are prescribed; if they are ineffective, pills are added. The following groups of drugs are used depending on the type of disease:

  • antifungal;
  • antiviral;
  • immunomodulators;
  • antibacterial;
  • antihistamines.

A vaccine against shingles exists, but it is only used in animals. They don't make it for people.

Types of lichen in humans

A person can develop the following types of lichen:

  • Pityriasis rosea

its causative agent is not yet known, it is believed that its occurrence is associated with herpininfection, it usually occurs when the body is weakened, and manifests itself in the form of pink or reddish spots with peeling. This type of lichen should not be actively treated; after 1.5, maximum 2 months, the lichen goes away on its own.

Lichen rosea, like almost all lichens, allergic reactions and other skin diseases at the very beginning appear as pink spots on the skin, which at first are most often single, and then spread and become more numerous (pityriasis versicolor, ringworm, shingles, lichen planus). You cannot engage in self-diagnosis and self-medication, or establish a diagnosis based on a photo and description of the disease. Only a dermatologist can differentiate the type of skin lesion, and first of all you should contact a specialist. Since the treatment of all types of lichen is very different and should only be prescribed by a dermatologist.

  • Ringworm, microsporia, trichophytosis of smooth skin or ringworm

The causative agent is fungi, one type of which is transmitted from animals, the other occurs only in humans.

  • Pityriasis versicolor, versicolor, versicolor

it is also a fungal disease, sun fungus, its causative agent is Microsporon furfur - a pathogenic filamentous fungus. A peculiarity of this type of fungus is the change in color of the affected skin after sunbathing, from dark to discolored; without treatment in winter, the reverse color change occurs.

  • Shingles, herpes

the most studied type of lichen, the causative agent of which is the herpes zoster virus, a characteristic feature of which is intense pain during the progression of the disease.

  • Lichen planus

The origin of this type of lichen in humans has been little studied. Treatment is also considered quite complex. It is assumed that various neurogenic and metabolic disorders in the body in response to physical or chemical factors can provoke the activation of some virus in the body.

Before starting treatment with ointments for lichen, creams, sprays or various solutions, you should know exactly what type of lichen a person has, the treatment of which, if incorrectly diagnosed, can lead to a worsening of the condition, the development of eczema, or the transition of lichen to a chronic form that is difficult to treat.

You should be especially careful when using all kinds of hormonal ointments, since when lichen is of fungal and viral origin, it is a great EVIL; at first they help a lot, but then worsen the condition and lead to a chronic course of the disease. A complete list of all hormonal ointments for psoriasis, dermatitis, allergies, as well as read about the dangers of their use, can be found on our website.

The table shows the types of lichen in humans, their brief description and the basic principles of therapy.

Description and treatmentWhat does lichen look like in humans - photo

Pink lichen - Zhiber's lichen

The causative agent is unknown, presumably arises from the influence of a virus, as a reaction of the body to hypothermia, occurs during a nervous breakdown, after prolonged stress and exposure to influenza, ARVI.

  • The onset of this disease is very similar to pityriasis (colored, multi-colored) lichen. Therefore, to establish a diagnosis, be sure to contact a dermatologist.
  • First, a large pink spot appears, which is accompanied by itching and peeling of the skin.
  • After 1-2 weeks, the number of spots increases; they can appear in different places of the body, but most often on the torso.
  • It occurs extremely rarely on the face, neck, hands and legs; this distinguishes it from dermatomycosis and ringworm.

Treatment: Goes away on its own within 6-8 weeks. The use of hormonal ointments and creams is unacceptable

Ringworm, microsporia, trichophytosis, ringworm of hair, nails, smooth skin

This is a fungal disease, the causative agent of which is 2 types of fungi - Trichophytosis and Microsporia.

  • If the scalp is affected, round lesions first appear on which the hair breaks off.
  • The cat peels off, whitish, gray scales form; bubbles may form along the edges of the spots, which burst to form yellow crusts.
  • With ringworm, on the skin of a person without hair, a spot with very clear edges first forms, forming a kind of roller, in the center there is a lighter color, and the inside of the spot peels off.
  • As the disease progresses, multiple foci of lichen appear.

Treatment: Consists of local use of antifungal drugs; in severe cases, the use of oral antifungals is also indicated. The use of hormonal ointments is not advisable; only in rare severe cases is their use possible.

Pityriasis versicolor, colored, multi-colored

It is also a fungal disease, chronic, recurrent. Even after treatment, it may recur in the future.

  • First, various asymmetrical spots appear, with uneven edges, of different shades - brown, yellow, pink. Therefore, patients often confuse this lichen with pink lichen of Zhiber.
  • It is usually localized on the back, abdomen, and neck. The spots do not rise above the skin, but the skin simply changes pigmentation.
  • The spots periodically peel off and the person may experience minor itching.

Treatment consists of using antifungal agents and exposure to ultraviolet rays - tanning, UV irradiation. Hormonal ointments should not be used.

Herpes zoster, herpes zoster

A viral disease occurs with a sharp decrease in immunity. It is characterized by 3 stages of development of skin lesions:

  • First, a person experiences symptoms of a viral infection - intoxication, increased body temperature, weakness, pain along the nerves, where there will be rashes in the future, and enlarged lymph nodes.
  • The period of rashes - pink spots of 2-5 mm appear, the next day bubbles form in their place, which burst and turn into crusts. In this case, a wave-like course of the disease occurs, while the crusts from the first wave of rashes dry out, a new wave of bubbles appears, encircling the body.
  • Sometimes, with a neurological course of the disease, there are no rashes on the skin, and the person is only bothered by intense pain, which is called herpetic neuralgia.

Treatment is based on the use of antiviral, antiherpetic drugs, both local and oral, strengthening the immune system, and vitamin therapy. You should absolutely not use hormonal ointments.

Lichen planus

  • The rash with this lichen is characterized by fairly small papules with a flat surface.
  • The color of the rash is red with shades from crimson to purple.
  • Most often it is localized on the flexor surfaces of the arms and legs, on the inner surface of the thighs, neither the face, nor the palms, nor the soles of the feet, this lichen does not affect the head.
  • Often occurs on the mucous membranes of the mouth and genitals - in the form of gray or pink tubercles.
  • Lichen planus is accompanied by intense itching. New rashes appear in places where the skin is broken due to scratches, abrasions, and scratches.
  • Sometimes it manifests itself in the form of a warty rash, ring-shaped, erosive and ulcerative.

Treatment: Since the occurrence of lichen planus is based on metabolic disorders, neurotic and immunological disorders, treatment consists of the use of antibiotics, sedatives, antihistamines, vitamin therapy, and immunomodulatory treatment. Hormonal drugs can only be used as prescribed and under the supervision of a physician.

Antifungal therapy

Such drugs are used to treat pityriasis versicolor and ringworm. Some drugs act on several types of pathogens, others are active against certain types. There are drugs available in tablet form, while others are available as external agents. Ringworm is treated with the following medications:

  1. Griseofulvin. These tablets for lichen in humans stop the proliferation of the fungus. Their active substance accumulates in hair, nails and skin. The dosage is selected depending on the person’s weight. At first, take the drug 3 times a day. If the treatment is effective, this amount is reduced. The drug is not prescribed to pregnant women and children under 2 years of age. The course of treatment is 1-2 months.
  2. Orungal. The drug is aimed at destroying the cell membranes of microorganisms that cause disease. The active component accumulates in the upper layers of the epidermis and is removed after exfoliation along with keratinized particles of the epithelium. It is available in capsule and solution form. Prescribe the drug 1 time per day, 2 capsules. The duration of treatment is 7 days. The drug is contraindicated for people with kidney and liver pathologies.
  3. Fulcin. Effective tablets for ringworm in humans, but may cause allergic reactions in some patients. For this reason, it is recommended to first do allergy tests and only then recommend them to the patient. The daily dose is 500 mg. You can take it once or in parts. The duration of treatment depends on the extent of the lesion and varies from 2 weeks to six months. Advanced forms of the disease are treated for up to a year.
  4. Lamisil is active against various fungi. The key component of the drug is terbinafine. The daily dose is 250 mg, taken at night. The duration of treatment depends on the type of fungus and the degree of damage and varies from 2 weeks to 3 months. Experts do not recommend the drug for children weighing less than 12 kg. There are local forms of drugs, for example, Lamisil ointment. It is rubbed into the affected areas 2 times a day. Treatment is continued until clinical signs disappear.
  5. Thermikon is a cheaper alternative to Lamisil.

Rating of remedies for lichen

Taking into account the cause of occurrence, 7 types of pathology are distinguished. The most dangerous are considered viral infections, which are characterized by rapid spread and long-term treatment. Therapy is aimed at alleviating symptoms, increasing immunity, and eliminating the irritant. The rating of the best treatments for lichen in an adult or child is based on the results of comparative tests of the following characteristics of the drugs:

  • Pharmacological group;
  • Release form;
  • Indications;
  • Presence and type of side effects;
  • Packaging volume;
  • Availability;
  • Active substance;
  • Number of contraindications;
  • Impact on human psychomotor reactions;
  • Terms of Use;
  • Interaction with drugs from other pharmaceutical groups;
  • Best before date.

The price/package volume ratio was taken into account. This indicator often determines the need for additional purchase of funds for a course of treatment. All top drugs are divided into 3 categories based on the release form. Each section provides a description, pros and cons of the medication according to reviews from doctors and patients.

The best antiviral agents

Lichen versicolor and its treatment

This form of lichen is activated by fungi. The drugs Termicon and Lamisil are used to treat the disease. Specialists can prescribe:

  1. Itraconazole It is effective against most known types of fungi. Their daily dose is 200 mg. The course of treatment is 1 week.
  2. Mycozoral. The active ingredient is Ketoconazole. This remedy is complex and copes well with yeast-like fungi, pathogens of trichophytosis and microsporia. The duration of treatment is individual. There is an ointment that needs to be rubbed into the skin. Treatment with local remedies continues for a month.
  3. Fluconazole. It is available in capsules and is aimed at stopping the growth of fungi. The course of treatment varies from 2 to 4 weeks. Take 300 mg at a time or 2 capsules of the drug once a week. The drug is contraindicated in pregnant women.
  4. Nystatin. An antifungal drug that is used to treat infections with yeast-like fungi. These microorganisms are active on the surface of the skin and mucous membranes of the pharynx and mouth. The course of treatment is 10−14 days. Take the drug 3 times a day in an individual dosage. The amount of the drug per dose depends on the affected area. There are local forms of the drug that can be used by pregnant women.
  5. Pimafucin. The drug destroys most known types of fungi. Treatment duration is 1 week. Take 1 tablet 4 times a day. The local form of the medicine is recommended for use by pregnant and lactating women.

Definition of the disease, causes and symptoms

Ringworm is a skin lesion caused by pathogenic bacteria. Symptoms are approximately the same for all types of the disease.

It affects not only people, but also animals. Actually, stray cats and dogs are the main source of infection.

The disease is transmitted only through direct contact. For example, a child petted a stray cat and became infected through the affected fur. It is also possible to transmit lichen through personal items (towels, other household items and household supplies). For example, the causative agents of ringworm (spores) can survive for years on fleecy surfaces and are resistant to ultraviolet radiation and high temperatures.

The incubation period is from 3 to 9 days, but in some cases (with ringworm) the disease manifests itself after 40–60 days.

At risk are children and adolescents under 15 years of age, as well as people with the following health problems: skin diseases, reduced immunity. Regardless of the type of disease, the symptoms are general. Expressed:

  • in a rash of ring-shaped spots of red or pink color;
  • Over time, blisters form on the spots and itching appears;
  • lichen affects the skin on any part of the body - feet, hands, scalp, groin areas.

Additional symptoms:

  • transparent contents are released from the bubbles; after drying, a flaky crust forms on the surface of the stain;
  • in rare cases - increased body temperature, intoxication.

Antiviral agents

Antiviral drugs are used for herpes zoster and lichen rosea. It is advisable to take them in the first 72 hours from the onset of the disease - this will speed up recovery and avoid complications. Antiviral drugs for lichen:

  1. Acyclovir. Its action is selective and directed at cells modified by the virus. The course of treatment is 5 days. Every 6 hours take 4 tablets. For children, the dosage is selected on an individual basis, depending on weight. Acyclovir is also available in ointment form.
  2. Valtrex is taken 1000 mg 3 times a day. It is not recommended for patients with liver and kidney pathologies.
  3. Valaciclovir. The duration of taking medications is 7 days. The patient takes 1000 mg every 8 hours. The course of treatment is a week. Children under 12 years of age are contraindicated. Elderly patients are advised to drink plenty of fluids during treatment.
  4. Famvir. The dosage for taking the medicine per day is 750 mg. It can be taken in equal parts throughout the day or drunk all at once. This medicine for lichen is taken for people for 7 days. The drug has analogues: Famacivir and Menaker.

Ancillary drugs

It was not possible to establish the exact causes of lichen planus and lichen rosea. Scientists today only have assumptions, so patients with this diagnosis use medications to alleviate the overall course of the disease and achieve a faster recovery.

Antihistamine tablets are aimed at combating allergies, itching and irritation in damaged areas. Dermatologists usually prescribe Suprastin and Loratadine tablets. Take them before bed. The course of treatment is 2 weeks.

Antibiotics are used when a bacterial infection is associated with the disease - this is indicated by the formation of abscesses. Typically, broad-spectrum agents are used: they eliminate inflammation and stop the spread of bacteria. The duration of therapy and dosage are selected by the doctor individually. The following drugs are usually prescribed:

  • Tetracycline;
  • Erythromycin;
  • Olethetrin.

Immunomodulators are another aid that increases the body's resistance to infections. Strengthening the immune system allows you to neutralize the negative consequences of the immune response to infection.

Among the immunomodulators there are:

  1. Polyoxidonium. It is widely used for viral and fungal infections. The drug must be taken 3 times a day, 1 tablet, dissolving it in the mouth.
  2. Cycloferon starts the process of interferon synthesis, which speeds up recovery. The daily dose is 450 mg, which corresponds to three tablets. They should be taken at a time. The course of treatment is 40 tablets.
  3. Delagil. An anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive drug used for lichen planus. Dose per day - 400 mg.
  4. Immunal. The basis of the drug is echinacea extract. It is taken one tablet 3 times a day for at least a week. Analogs of the drug are Estifan and Immunorm.
  5. Lycopid. A new generation immunomodulator, which is prescribed 2 times a day, 2 mg.
  6. Plaquenil. Anti-inflammatory drug for the treatment of lichen planus. The daily dose is 400 mg. After the condition improves, switch to a dosage of 200 mg. The daily amount can be taken immediately or divided into 2 doses.

Shingles

This type of herpetic infection is called lichen, although the causative agent of this skin disease is herpes zoster, which causes chickenpox in children, and in adults, when the immune system is weakened, it manifests itself as herpes zoster. Sprays for different types of diseases

External forms of drugs are marketed in spray form. The active ingredient in most products available on the market is terbinafine. It acts against yeast-like fungi and dermatophytes. To use the spray, first clean the surface of the skin and dry it. After this, the ringworm remedy is sprayed over the affected areas. During use of the drug, adverse reactions may occur in the form of peeling, redness and itching. Other sprays that can be seen in pharmacies:

  • Lamisil;
  • Miconazole;
  • Kanesten.

There is no exact dosage for sprays. They are sprayed so that the skin becomes moist. Use the ringworm spray for people twice a day. Improvements are visible from the first day, but treatment should be continued until complete recovery.

Symptoms when you should stop taking the pills

Many people confuse an allergic reaction with lichen. In some cases, allergies appear within a few minutes. Depending on the reaction, a nodular rash appears. The affected area has no clear boundaries, and the skin becomes red and inflamed.

If you notice such a rash, you should stop taking medications incorrectly and consult a dermatologist. When treating ringworm tablets, the basic principle should be the saying “do no harm.” Before you begin to remove lichen from the human body, you need to find out the cause of its causative agent.

Suspensions, pastes and solutions

These external forms of drugs are not always used exclusively to destroy pathogens. They can be used as regenerating agents and antiseptics. Solutions are very convenient for treating lichen on the head. Compared to ointments and creams, they are quickly absorbed and do not lead to hair contamination. They are applied to smooth areas of the epidermis. We are talking about such means as:

  1. Clotrimazole. An antifungal solution is used against ringworm and pityriasis versicolor. Rub a few drops twice a day into the affected areas.
  2. Yoddicerin. It includes iodine and glycerin. The drug dries out the scales, restores the epidermis and leaves no traces behind. The tampon is moistened in the medicine and then applied to the damaged skin.
  3. Fukortsin. An antimicrobial and antifungal solution that should be used to treat diseased areas 2 times a day before applying the ointment. This drug is inconvenient to treat lichen on the face, as it turns the skin red.
  4. Sangviritrin. A solution that destroys germs is used to wipe the skin 2 times a day.
  5. Tsindol. The suspension, which has a drying effect, also has an antiseptic effect. Used in the treatment of pityriasis rosea.
  6. Pasta Lassara. This is a complex action drug for skin pathologies. The active component of the product is salicylic acid. It fights inflammation and restores the skin. Apply the paste 2 times a day.
  7. Lamisil. The lotion is used to treat the skin. The product forms a film on the surface of the epidermis, which lasts for several days.

Pharmacies offer a wide range of drugs to combat skin diseases, but only a doctor can find out what is the best way to treat lichen. Independent actions are undesirable, as they can be harmful to health.

Which remedy for ringworm is better to buy?

The choice of drug depends on the type, severity of the pathology, and the age of the person. It is easier to treat children's lichen with external means, because not every child agrees to take pills. The option of sprays at this age is out of the question; they are allowed only from 12 years of age. Treatment with ointments is often used for mild pathology; in severe cases, they are used in combination with tablets. Sprays are chosen by patients for whom rapid absorption of the product is important. The following recommendations will help make the choice of medication easier:

  • The best drug for the treatment of herpes zoster in adults and children is Acyclovir;
  • The safest composition is Gistan;
  • Inexpensive but effective remedy - Sulfur-tar ointment;
  • Broad spectrum of action – Clotrimazole;
  • The best ointment for lichen in children is Mikoseptin;
  • The most convenient treatment option is Terbinafine;
  • The best medicine for ringworm is Griseofulvin.

Each tool has its own pros and cons. How to treat lichen in children is determined by the doctor in adults after receiving the diagnostic results. All his recommendations must be followed strictly.

Treatment regimen with external drugs

Antifungal therapy with local agents is carried out according to the general scheme. Patients are recommended:

Twice a day (in the morning and before bedtime) treat the affected areas with salicylic alcohol or another drug with keratolytic properties. Use several external antimycotics with different active ingredients. The drugs are applied to the lesions one by one. Having used up a tube with one product, they take another. Treatment lasts 4 weeks. Mycozoral and Fungoterbin are used in combination with Clotrimazole. For extensive rashes, it is necessary to carry out complex therapy. Add systemic medications to ointments, creams and gels. Take control tests when the course of treatment ends. If the pathogen is not detected in 3 samples taken several weeks apart, the patient is considered recovered. If the tests are positive, the course of treatment is repeated with other antifungal agents. Do not interrupt treatment, complete it. It is impossible to stop using antifungals immediately after signs of the disease disappear

This increases the likelihood of relapse. Pay attention to prevention. For washing, use gels and shampoos with antifungal components: Mycozoral, Nizoral and others.

Therapy for ringworm takes up to 2 months. Patients need to be patient and strictly follow the doctor’s recommendations. Patients who adhere to the treatment regimen accelerate the healing process.

Nystatin suppositories

Vaginal suppositories Nystatin are antifungal drugs that have a detrimental effect on pathogenic microorganisms of the genus Candida. The main active ingredient is nystatin. This remedy is widely used in gynecology in the treatment of candidiasis.

The treatment regimen consists of using suppositories twice a day, morning and evening. They are introduced after hygiene procedures. The woman should remain in a lying position for at least half an hour so that the candle has time to dissolve.

Nystatin rarely exhibits side effects, which may be characterized by itching and burning in the intimate area. Contraindications include the following:

  • individual intolerance to one of the components of the drug;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation period.

The cost of 10 candles of Nystatin suppositories is only 64 rubles, so patients rarely look for its analogue. It is also worth considering that there are no candles with identical composition. There are only generics with the same spectrum of action - Pimafucin (495 rubles), Betadine (533 rubles), Macmiror (840 rubles).

The suppositories are sold over-the-counter, in cardboard packaging, 10 pieces per pack, with a dosage of 500,000 units.

Nystatin ointment

Nystatin ointment has a detrimental effect on the Candida fungus, while acting only locally - on the applied area. The description of this topical drug states that it is effective in the fight against nail fungus, pityriasis versicolor and ringworm, while simultaneously relieving painful symptoms and the root cause of the disease - pathogenic microorganisms.

In order for the ointment to help the patient faster, it is advisable to combine it with taking antifungal tablets - Nystatin, Fluconazole or Pimafucin. An integrated approach to yeast-like spores guarantees 100% cure in a short time.

However, before purchasing an ointment, you need to familiarize yourself with its contraindications:

  1. Pregnancy.
  2. Lactation period.
  3. Individual intolerance to ointment components.

Nystatin contains the active ingredient nystatin in a dosage of 100,000 units, as well as auxiliary components - petroleum jelly and lanolin. The ointment is sold in a metal tube with a volume of 30 grams. The cost of the drug is 83 rubles.

There are no analogues of the ointment for the active substance, but in the pharmacy you can find other ointments with a pronounced antifungal effect - Clotrimazole, Travogen, Ketoconazole and Exoderil cream. However, their price will be several times higher than Nystatin. Therefore, replacing it is impractical.

Many patients who suffer from lichen or have just discovered the symptoms of this disease are wondering: how to cure this disease, what drugs exist for the treatment of each type, what is their cost and what is the best remedy?

Before studying information about medications, you should visit a dermatologist. He will prescribe the dosage and determine the treatment regimen. But before using any product, you must carefully read the instructions for it, find out patient reviews and evaluate its effectiveness.

In some cases, you may need information and a brief description of many medications, in which case a list of the most effective shingles pills for all people will help, some of them are suitable for pregnant women and children. They destroy diseases from the inside; they are recommended to be included in the complex treatment of dermatological diseases.

It is not enough to know how to treat lichen in children, what ointment can be prescribed: when treating lichen in a child, parents should follow the following recommendations

.

It is better to remove carpets, rugs and soft toys from the room. Wash a sick child's clothes separately

and iron it on both sides. You need to ventilate your baby’s room every day.

It is advisable to avoid contact with water: warm water provokes the development of the disease or new relapses.

It is necessary to choose clothes made from natural fabrics, as they allow air to pass through well and the skin breathes.

It is advisable to avoid sunlight and walk with your baby in the evening.

, since sunlight can lead to the growth of fungus.

Protect the child from contact with other children and adults

and especially animals. After each contact with an animal, make sure that the baby washes his hands thoroughly and wipe them with an antiseptic.

Finally, you should stick to a specific diet

– It is best to avoid sweet, salty and fatty foods. It is also better to exclude smoked meats from a sick child’s diet.

Nystatin tablets for fungus of the skin, nails and mucous membranes

The drug in tablet form is available in a dosage of 250 thousand units and 500 thousand units of the active substance called nystatin. In addition to nystatin, the tablet formulation includes the following components: potato starch, lactose, tropeolin O, vanilla extract, and calcium stearate.

The tablets are yellowish in color with a characteristic vanilla aroma. Sold ten pieces in blisters or 20, 30 pieces in glass jars. Available over-the-counter at any pharmacy.

Nystatin is active against yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. It destroys their membrane and blocks further reproduction. Therefore, the answer to the question of what pills help with is obvious:

  • thrush (candidiasis);
  • onychomycosis (in complex therapy with ointment or antifungal nail polish);
  • pityriasis versicolor, ringworm;
  • stomatitis;
  • relief of Candida fungi in the gastrointestinal tract, oral cavity, and urinary system in men.

Often, nystatin antibiotics are prescribed as a prophylaxis against fungal diseases in patients with a history of autoimmune diseases, for example, human immunodeficiency virus, oncology, etc.

Schemes for using tablets for candidiasis of internal organs and lichen

The annotation for the tablets indicates various dosage regimens, depending on the disease. Thus, for candidiasis of any internal organs (reproductive system in women, gastrointestinal tract, urinary system, etc.), pills with a dosage of 500 thousand units should be used four to eight times a day, based on the severity of the clinical picture and regardless of eating.

For patients aged from one to three years, the dosage is 250 thousand units, three times a day. From three to fourteen years, 250 thousand units four times a day.

If Nystatin is prescribed as a complex therapy for pityriasis versicolor or ringworm, which involves the use of topical drugs, then it must be taken as follows:

  1. The daily dose for an adult is 2 million units, for a child over three years old 750 thousand units.
  2. Take tablets three times a day, at regular intervals.
  3. The course of treatment is ten days. However, painful symptoms - itching, burning, redness of the affected area, will begin to decrease already on the first day of using the drug.

If one of the family members is diagnosed with lichen, then Nystatin is used as a prophylaxis, 500 thousand units three times a day, for 10 days.

If lichen is treated simultaneously with Nystatin and Clotrimazole, then the pharmacological properties of Clotrimazole are significantly reduced.

Contraindications for use

Nystatin in tablet form is prescribed to patients over the age of one year. Up to a year, if the clinical picture of the disease requires it, the child can be prescribed the minimum dosage of the medicine, which is 125 thousand units (the tablet is mixed in milk).

Nystatin is not prescribed during pregnancy and lactation, since there are no reliable clinical trials of the tablets and their effect on the fetus has not been reliably identified. Instead of Nystatin, doctors recommend a more gentle drug - Pimafucin. It is not an antibiotic and has a selective effect on pathogenic microorganisms.

The instructions for use of Nystatin state that it is also contraindicated in the following cases:

  • children under one year of age;
  • people with liver diseases;
  • in the presence of an ulcer;
  • in case of individual intolerance to one of the substances included in the drug.

Side effects from the drug are quite rare. It can manifest itself in an allergic rash, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (vomiting, stomach pain, nausea). If a negative effect is detected, you should stop taking the pills and consult a doctor.

Nystatin should not be used together with alcohol due to the weakening of the pharmacological properties of the drug and the high risk of developing allergies.

Analogs of Nystatin tablets

Nystatin is a relatively inexpensive drug, so substitutes are rarely sought. The average pharmacy price for 20 tablets with a dosage of 500 thousand units is only 35 rubles, and 100 tablets with the same dosage are 132 rubles.

There are no tablets with identical composition, but the pharmaceutical market offers a lot of generics (synonyms for the drug in terms of spectrum of action), which are also active against yeast-like fungi.

This may include:

  1. Pimafucin tablets - stops the vital activity and reproduction of not only microorganisms of the genus Candida, but also Trichomonas, dermatomycetes. The cost of a course of treatment (20 tablets) is 458 rubles.
  2. Fluconazole capsules, the price of one capsule with a dosage of 150 MG is 35 rubles. For pityriasis versicolor, ringworm, one tablet per day is used for two weeks. For vaginal candidiasis, 150 mg once.
  3. Mikomax capsules, the cost of one 150 MG capsule is about 270 rubles. To treat thrush, it is enough to take one 150 MG tablet; to reduce the risk of relapse, take another capsule after 30 days. For the treatment of ringworm, the regimen is different - 150 MG once a week for three weeks. For pityriasis versicolor – two tablets once a week, for two weeks.
