Rashes on the face, back and décolleté cause a lot of trouble not only for adolescents in adolescence, but also for adults. Retouching redness with cosmetics leads to blockage of the sebaceous glands and only aggravates the problem. Acne is the result of inflammation caused by the action of the bacterium propionibact Erium Acnes. To eliminate them, it is necessary to use agents that can neutralize pathogenic microflora. One such drug is the acne gel Metrogyl.

What kind of drug is this

Metrogyl gel has been used in the treatment of pimples and acne of varying severity for many years. This is an ointment for external use and does not require a prescription. It does not contain antibiotics or hormones.

The main active ingredient is metronidazole. This component helps to actively fight inflammatory processes that lead to acne. The ointment also contains antibacterial elements that suppress the activity of pathogenic bacteria. In addition to the antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial effect, it has regenerating and wound-healing properties.

The drug for external use is produced in the form of a gel, packaged in an aluminum tube with 30 g packaging. Metrogyl is in demand. Its popularity is due to its effectiveness, a minimum number of contraindications and side effects, as well as its low price.

brief information

This product effectively fights pimples and acne of varying severity. While not an antibiotic, the drug is quite effective in eliminating microorganisms that have a harmful effect on the skin from the surface. This remedy is well suited for long-term use because it does not cause addiction in the patient.

The main active ingredient in Metrogyl facial gel is metronidazole. This ingredient has antiprotozoal and antibacterial effects. In addition, the medication contains distilled water, calcium sodium edetate, carbopol, propylene glycol, caustic soda. Each gram of the drug contains 10 mg of metronidazole.

The gel is produced in aluminum and plastic sealed tubes of 30 grams. It has a viscous, thick consistency without color. The transparent product does not leave any marks on the skin, making it very convenient to use.

Metrogyl facial gel is effective in the fight against anaerobic pathogens, due to which it is often used to treat infectious pathologies. The drug is very popular in the treatment of dermatological problems due to the absence of side effects, since it is not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream.

How it works

The main reason for the appearance of acne on the face and some parts of the body is disruption of the normal functioning of the sebaceous glands, which can be caused by the following factors:

  • hormonal imbalances associated with adolescence or disruption of the endocrine system;
  • gynecological diseases and abnormalities in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • intoxication of the body caused by the unsystematic use of drugs;
  • long stay in stuffy, very dusty rooms;
  • failure to comply with personal hygiene rules.

Metrogyl anti-acne gel effectively combats problems caused by the action of pathogenic bacteria that actively develop in the epidermis under the influence of one or more of the factors listed above.

The ointment has a powerful therapeutic effect aimed at preventing the spread of infection:

  1. stops the inflammatory process and increases the resistance of the skin;
  2. effectively cleanses the skin, is a strong antioxidant;
  3. has a drying effect on opened purulent rashes;
  4. prevents the appearance of scars and scars that may appear after treatment of deep subcutaneous acne.

Metrogyl solves the problem at the cellular level. It inhibits the action of bacteria by penetrating their DNA structure and disrupting the process of substance synthesis. The gel helps start the regeneration process of injured skin.

Important! Before starting the course, it is better to consult a doctor. Unsystematic use of ointment can disrupt the water and fat balance of the epidermis.

Advantages

In the list of the most popular acne gels, Metrogyl takes 3rd place. This high rating is due to the following properties of the drug:

  • strong antimicrobial and bacteriostatic effect;
  • wide range of uses;
  • rapid relief of inflammatory processes and increased immunity of the epidermis at the cellular level;
  • long-lasting effect after use;
  • is not absorbed into the blood and does not have a negative effect on the central nervous system and organ function;
  • has a light structure, is quickly absorbed, does not require rinsing;
  • can be used as a base for makeup, does not dry out the skin and does not create a feeling of tightness;
  • the ointment can be bought without a prescription at an affordable price (average cost in pharmacies is 130 rubles).

Attention! At least 10 minutes should pass between using the medicinal ointment and applying foundation.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

According to the instructions for use, Metrogyl acne gel is a safe drug. However, doctors recommend avoiding its use in the first trimester of pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Clinical studies on the penetration of active components into the blood have not been conducted. Therefore, it is better not to risk the health of the woman and child.

It is also important to take into account individual intolerance to the components of the gel. If the body is oversaturated with metronidazole, there is a high probability of an allergic reaction in a pregnant woman.

Flaws

Metrogil does not have many disadvantages, but they are still present:

  1. the possibility of allergic reactions to individual components of the drug;
  2. to achieve maximum effect, it is recommended to use the drug after cleansing the face, as an addition to the procedure;
  3. Metrogyl is highly addictive and repeated use may be less effective;
  4. therapy takes a long time. The minimum duration of the course is 2 weeks. In difficult cases, treatment may take 2 months;
  5. after use, avoid prolonged exposure of treated skin to direct sunlight;
  6. in winter, it is better to refrain from long walks in the cold;
  7. visiting a sauna can neutralize the therapeutic effect of the ointment;
  8. The gel is not effective in 100% of cases.

Indications for use

Metrogyl is a broad-spectrum drug. It can be prescribed for the following skin problems:

  • acne on the face and back;
  • infections and inflammations of the skin;
  • trophic ulcers caused by poor circulation;
  • burns, open, difficult-to-heal wounds after abscesses, boils, boils;
  • with purulent inflammation;
  • eczema, seborrhea, dermatitis, accompanied by severe rashes;
  • bedsores at the initial stage;
  • in proctology they are used for varicose hemorrhoidal veins and for the treatment of cracks and wounds in the anus.

For mild rashes, the desired effect can be achieved after just a few applications of the ointment. In more complex cases, you will have to complete the full course, which lasts up to 9 weeks.

How to treat acne with Metrogil ointment

Instructions for using the drug are included in the package. To achieve results, you must follow the rules for using the gel:

  1. Before application, it is necessary to cleanse the skin of impurities and decorative cosmetics. It is recommended to wash with warm running water with minimal use of detergents;
  2. apply the ointment to problem skin with gentle massaging movements in a thin, even layer;
  3. After the procedure, wash your hands thoroughly to avoid accidental contact of ointment residues with the mucous membrane of the eyes;
  4. use the gel morning and evening. If the rash has cleared up after several uses, it is recommended to take a minimum course of 2 weeks;
  5. wait until completely absorbed. Remove excess with a soft cloth or towel.

Metrogyl, used against acne, rarely causes an allergic reaction, but a sensitivity test must be done before first use. For this

you need to apply a small amount of ointment to the inside of your wrist. If no discomfort occurs within 10 minutes, it can be used to treat acne.

Dosage regimen

Instructions for use of the Metrogyl gel contain detailed instructions on the features of its use. It is recommended that before starting a course of therapy, apply a small amount of the drug to the bend of the elbow, leaving for 15-20 minutes. If there is no allergic reaction, you can begin treatment.

The gel should be applied to previously cleansed and dry skin. After it is completely absorbed, you can use decorative cosmetics. The duration of the course of therapy should not exceed 5 days, since addiction occurs and the effectiveness of the drug decreases. For minor rashes, repeat the procedure twice a day.

Contraindications and side effects

Metrogyl for acne, like any other medicine, has contraindications and side effects. Since it is not absorbed into the blood, the official instructions for its use indicate only one contraindication:

  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

It is not recommended to use Metrogyl during pregnancy (especially in the first trimester) and lactation. Patients with diseases of the blood, internal organs and the presence of tumors and neoplasms are recommended to consult a doctor before using the product.

The ointment contains a very low concentration of metronidazole, so the risk of side effects is minimal. However, in rare cases the following deviations can be observed:

  • allergies (urticaria, skin rash);
  • swelling, peeling, dryness and burning of the skin;
  • lacrimation (when applying the ointment close to the eyes);
  • reverse effect (when there are more acne than there were before treatment).

During the course, it is advisable to avoid the use of strong alcoholic beverages and closely monitor your condition. Excessive drowsiness may occur. This should be taken into account by people whose work requires increased concentration.

Acne gel Metrogyl: reviews and photos

I have been suffering from acne for over 13 years (I am now 23) and still have problems. I watch my diet and lead an active lifestyle. Sometimes the skin becomes just perfect and it seems that I have dealt with the problem, and then a relapse occurs again . Reviews about Metrogyl gel are very different. I completely completed the course of treatment with the composition 3 times over 2 years. In my search for a cure for acne, I tried everything that was available (Zinerit, Skinoren, Baziron, Sebium, Bioderma, Global, Effaklar Duo), as well as alcohol-based folk remedies. After much experimentation, I came to the conclusion that aggressive products are not suitable for me (too sensitive skin).

Only Metrogyl gel gives a noticeable effect, but also has no side effects such as burning, redness of the skin, or irritation. At the moment I haven't found anything better. For a tube of 30 g I paid 155 rubles. The instructions for the medicine contain many indications for use. And to solve many skin problems, such a product is useful for every first aid kit . And at this price it has no competitors.

Metrogyl was not prescribed to me by a doctor and before you judge me, listen to my position. Over the years, I have seen many dermatologists. I came to understand most things on my own, but visiting specialists did not give me anything. Before using the product, I always carefully read the instructions. Metrogyl should be used 2 times a day for at least 3 months. Results are promised within 3 weeks. The main contraindications are breastfeeding and pregnancy.

The medicine comes in a convenient tube. The composition is transparent and odorless. Easily spreads over the surface and is quickly absorbed. After use, the skin becomes velvety and smooth . Foundation and other cosmetics can easily be applied to it.

I used Metrogyl for the first time after the winter session. From stress and nerves, my face became covered in inflammation. After a week of use, all marks on the skin disappeared. I bought the composition for the second time in the summer. This time there was no magical result. He helped, but not like the first time. I started using the composition for the third time since the beginning of December. Complementing other products - essential oils, clay mask, tar soap. Metrogyl is an antibiotic of synthetic origin and has an addictive effect . Each subsequent use will be less effective. This time I got a lot of rash on my cheek. After 2 weeks of using the composition, everything went away, but appeared in a new place (on the chin and around the mouth).

I have no medical education and all my recommendations are based on my own experience.
Metrogyl is not a treatment, it simply eliminates skin problems well. And if you have acne, then the composition will get rid of acne, but will not cure the disease. Larisa

Local use of the gel minimizes the absorption of the active substance into the blood, affecting acne superficially. Moreover, the drug is compatible with other medications for the skin and cosmetic products.

It should be noted that Metrogyl acne gel and Metrogil-denta are two different drugs. One is used in the treatment of acne and acne, the second - for inflammatory processes in the oral cavity.

Dermatotropic products Unique Pharmaceutical Metrogyl gel

My warm greetings to everyone suffering from problem skin!

My skin has suffered a lot over the 10 years of acne, it has not endured) It seemed that all pharmaceutical products had been tried, and I settled on one - Klindovite (although I was wrong in this choice, I will explain why below). Unfortunately, it was discontinued, and on Airek’s advice, I decided to buy Metrogyl skin gel.

The product is available in tubes weighing 30 grams, the cost is about 120 rubles, which is very cheap for an anti-acne drug.

The consistency is medium, gel, colorless and odorless. It spreads easily, dries in a minute and leaves dryness and tightness. After a couple of minutes, I make sure to apply moisturizer.

Compound:

1 g of gel for external use contains:

— Active ingredients: Metronidazole 10 mg.

— Excipients: Methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, carbomer 940, disodium edetate, sodium hydroxide, propylene glycol, purified water.

What can I say about the effect? It exists, or rather, it existed. Serious inflammation went away in a couple of weeks, my cheeks cleared up, but after two weeks severe rashes began again. At first I decided that it was because of the cycle, but no - another two weeks passed, and the skin was still in terrible condition, despite the use of Metrogyl. I did not introduce any other drugs or new products into my care.

In the photo before: an aggravation after the oil from Planet Organics, which I somehow tried to compensate for with a spot gel. The skin is in the worst condition.

Photo a month later. As you can see, the inflammation from the oil has completely gone, but there are a lot of new nasty things. I smear myself with Metrogyl twice a day.

At this stage, I was lucky enough to get an appointment at the dermatology office of one of the St. Petersburg medical institutes. There I was examined about hair loss, but the doctor, noticing my problems on my face, asked what I was using. She laughed a little and said that Metrogyl, in principle, is not intended to treat acne and, logically, it is not capable of preventing the cause of their appearance. In general, this drug was originally intended to neutralize intestinal flora.

True, the indications on the packaging are as follows:

According to my doctor, neither acne, nor, especially, seborrheic dermatitis, can be treated with Metrogyl.

The fact is that it is effective only against anaerobic organisms and is essentially a local antibiotic, and it is used externally for skin infections and after operations. Acne is caused by aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, and to eliminate it, bacterial suppression alone is not enough, it requires serious and constant exfoliation and regulation of sebum secretion. In principle, antibiotics can have a quick effect, but acne just as quickly comes back after the microbes get used to the medicine. Antibiotics for acne are prescribed only in very severe conditions for temporary improvement. I made a mistake with clindovit, because... it is also an antibiotic.

The only external remedies currently proven to cure acne are retinoids, derivatives of vitamin A (for example, klenzit, adaklin, differin). Retinoids are the first choice drugs for the treatment of acne by international standards.

Retinoids simultaneously suppress the production of sebum, promote exfoliation of the upper layers of skin and the death of microorganisms (since they need sebum for nutrition). In addition, retinoids increase collagen production, which is beneficial for maintaining youthful skin. Update: I tested retinoids on myself (Klenzit).

At a mild stage of acne, the following may be effective: benzoyl peroxide (Baziron), azelaic acid (Skinorene), zinc. Everything else sold in pharmacies is maintenance products, antibiotics for a quick effect in severe cases (but not for long-term therapy), and just cosmetics.

I heard all of the above from a dermatologist, and, of course, I checked - even Wikipedia writes the same thing. I haven’t gotten around to retinoids yet, because I’m planning chemical peels, and it’s not good to combine them. Therefore, I cannot say that medications with retinoids will certainly help. Baziron really helped me with mild acne, but I felt more harm from it than good. Skinoren cleared the skin a little, but the changes were very minor. Zinc pastes turned out to be useless for me, they only slightly reduced inflammation in a targeted manner.

Conclusion: Metrogyl is practically useless as a treatment for acne in the long term, but it can be used in cases of sudden relapse and in addition to the main treatment, if there is no incompatibility between drugs.

UPD: in connection with the comments that appeared, of obvious origin, I completely lost respect for the Metrogil manufacturers. Not only do they sometimes give illiterate advice in their VK group, which is closed for commenting and discussion, but they also order meaningless comments on the Internet, trying to mislead people interested in the drug. PS comments have been removed, as have their authors removed from the site.

Indications for use

When used externally, a doctor may prescribe Metrogyl cream for the treatment of infectious lesions of the skin surface, for example: seborrhea, difficult-to-heal wounds, eczema, acne. Metrogyl helps well against demodicosis (fighting subcutaneous mites). A drug may be prescribed for the treatment of hemorrhoids, bedsores, and fissures in the anus. In dentistry, it is used in the treatment of stomatitis, periodontal disease, periodontitis, alveolitis, chronic and acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis. The vaginal form is prescribed for the treatment of urogenital trichomoniasis and vaginosis.

In gynecology

The ability of the drug to resist a wide range of protozoa (including gardnerella, trichomonas) and various bacteria is recognized by gynecologists. To fight diseases, the same ability is used to destroy the DNA of viral cells, which causes their death. Metrogyl in gynecology, due to its antiprotozoal and antibacterial effect, in the form of a gel is used in the treatment of:

  • urogenital trichomoniasis;
  • vulvovaginitis, which is caused by microorganisms sensitive to metronidazole.

For face

It is a gel with metronidazole for the face, a thick white mass, which is applied in small quantities to the skin. The affected area of the dermis and hands should be washed and dried before use. Dermatologists recommend using Metrogyl gel in the treatment of acne, demodicosis, trophic ulcers, seborrhea, and eczema. Apply the product in an even layer for 20-30 seconds, the gel is absorbed and then you can apply cosmetics on top (the product does not react).

Instructions for use

Metrogyl gel has several medicinal purposes, which implies different options for using the medication. When treating skin pathologies and vaginal use, there are different algorithms for applying the product. It is not recommended to treat gynecological pathologies without consulting a doctor. He will be able to accurately determine the duration of the course and dosage, based on the diagnosis.

Metrogyl vaginal gel

In the treatment of gynecological diseases, the drug is administered intravaginally. We recommend that the amount of gel should be inserted into the vagina using a special applicator. As a rule, the dosage is 5 g of the drug in the evening and in the morning. The standard course of therapy is 5-7 days. The duration may be longer depending on the type of pathogen and the severity of the pathology. During use, you must refrain from sexual intercourse. The application algorithm is as follows:

  1. Remove the applicator from the packaging and remove the cap from the tube.
  2. Place the applicator onto the neck of the tube.
  3. Hold the tube so that the applicator is facing up, press down on the contents so that the nozzle is completely filled.
  4. Unscrew the applicator and remove it from the tube, close it with the cap.
  5. Carefully insert the nozzle into the vagina, slowly press the plunger so that all the gel is inside.
  6. Remove the applicator, wipe it with medical alcohol, and store it clean until next use.

Mode of application

Metrogyl for burns is applied to previously cleansed skin in a loose layer twice a day, morning and evening. The duration of treatment varies from 3 to 9 weeks, depending on the severity of the burn wound. It is possible to alternate the application of the gel and other anti-burn agents. The average course of therapy is 3 months, and the therapeutic effect is observed after 3 weeks of use.

In case of a burn of the tongue or palate, apply the product to the damaged area in a loose layer several times a day. Duration of treatment is 7-10 days. Take the medicine after a meal. Do not drink or eat for half an hour after application.

Do not allow the gel to get into your eyes. Do not apply the product to areas close to the eyes. When applying the product to a large surface, the risk of developing systemic adverse reactions increases. Use with extreme caution in patients with impaired hematopoietic system function.

How to enhance the effect

The catalyst for the antimicrobial properties of the drug is sulfonamides. If you combine Phenytoin and Metrogyl gel, the expulsion of the second is accelerated, which reduces the concentration of metronidazole in the blood. Patients who have received increased doses of lithium-containing drugs for a long time should take into account that it is possible to increase the concentration of lithium in plasma when combined with Metrogyl. Combined use with other anti-acne agents will help increase effectiveness in the fight against acne.

Drug interactions

Clinical studies have confirmed that the interaction of the drug with other drugs is insignificant due to the low concentration of the drug in the blood. Mutual influence may be observed when taking the following medications simultaneously:

  1. Agents with an indirect anticoagulant effect. When used together with metronidazole, the prothrombin time will increase.
  2. Patients taking disulfiram are not prescribed metronidazole, because this provokes side effects from the nervous system.
  3. The risk of side effects increases when taken simultaneously with cimetidine, which increases plasma concentrations of metronidazole.

Contraindications and side effects

There are some factors that exclude the possibility of using the drug with metronidazole. Contraindications include the following:

  1. The gel cannot be prescribed to people who suffer from liver failure, epileptic seizures, leukopenia, or allergies to the components of the drug.
  2. The medication is prohibited in the first trimester of pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
  3. Contraindicated for children under 12 years of age; dental use is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.
  4. Alcohol is prohibited during treatment with Metrogyl gel.

As a rule, the medication is well tolerated by patients, and side effects are extremely rare. When applied externally, its concentration in the blood is insignificant. Negative sensations include the following manifestations:

  • skin irritation at the application sites (swelling, redness, rarely itching, urticaria);
  • peeling, feeling of tightness.

Analogs of facial gel "Metrogil"

There are several drugs with identical therapeutic properties and similar composition.

  • "Dazolik." The active ingredient is ornidazole, which is similar in characteristics to metronidazole. The drug is used for parasitic infections: amebiasis, trichomoniasis and giardiasis. Prohibited for use by children under 12 years of age.
  • "Orzol." It has the same main active ingredient – ornidazole. The medication is produced in the form of a solution and is used for parasitic pathologies.

Analogs

According to patient reviews, the results of using the gel are positive; unpleasant consequences rarely occur. If this medication is not available in the pharmacy, you can find analogues that contain metronidazole. Such drugs belong to the group of antiprotozoal drugs to combat bacterial activity. For the treatment of acne inflammation, purulent pimples, you can order:

The cost of the medicine may vary depending on the place of sale. You can buy it in an online medicine store through a catalog or at a pharmacy. How much does Metrogyl gel cost if bought in Moscow:

  • for vaginal use, 30 g, price – 170 rubles;
  • for external use, 30 g, price – 180 rubles.
  • Metrogyl denta, 20 g, price – 200 rubles.

Complex treatment

According to doctors and according to the instructions for use, Metrogyl gel is most effective as part of complex therapy. The following are usually used as additional means:

  1. "Curiosin."
  2. "Differin."
  3. "Zinerite".
  4. "Regetsin."

Before application, your face and hands should be thoroughly cleansed. Regular tar soap, alcohol lotion or micellar water are suitable for this purpose. Then you need to apply the gel locally, affecting only the affected areas. It takes no more than 15 minutes for it to be completely absorbed. The procedure is recommended to be carried out twice a day. If the patient uses the drug described in the article in the morning, then in the evening it should be replaced with any medication from the list above.
